I need some help. I have a 2000 GT, and the rear axle is pretty well f****d. I might be able to salvage the gears, diff and the left brake hardware. I am trying to get this fixed and on the road again as cheap and as fast as possible. I need to know if there are any other complete 8.8 axles that will bolt into a 00 and fit correctly. Vic's explorers, t-bird etc. I haven't had any luck finding the part numbers. Thanks for the help.

hmm not sure on that. I would look at a wrecking yard or something. I know any 99-04 stang would work obvioulsy. I am sure there are some of them jacked all up at wrecking yards with a rear still under it.

what exaclty is wrong? if it is just an axle I am sure someone hear has an old 28 spline laying around. can't remeber if I still have mine in the garage or not. I would give it away though if somone needed it.

if you can diagnose what parts you need you should be able to source the stuff cheap. I mean I have a 28 spline diff in perfect shape laying on a shelf. not worth any money so to speak. can proably find parts from memeber here or ebay for next to nothing.

I hit a curb and everything outside of the actual axle itself is gone on the right side. The impact took off the right wheel, hub, and all brake hardware. I am not sure if the axle is bent. I think the diff is ok. Definatly everything from the halfshaft out needs to be replaced. Is the GT axle the same part as the GT? I thought the GT had 31 and the V6 had the 28. I appreciate any help.

no the gt axle is 28 spline. the gt has a 8.8 rear though and the v6 has the 7.5.

pull the axles you should be able to verify if it is bent.

is the housing itselff bent or damaged? I don't quite understand you terminology.

you have a housing, axle, rotor, backing plate(bolts ot the housing to mount the cliper braket too), anti moan brace, calipure braket, calipuer, and dust shield.

you don't have hub, or half shaft on a strait axle car.

if the housing is not damaged this is an easy repair. fi the housing is f'd up then you may consider finding a complete rear to save time.

Thanks for the proper terms. The end of the axle shaft is sheared off. Everything from the end of the shaft itself is gone. So I believe that I need everything you said except possibly the housing.

That would be the, "rotor, backing plate (bolts to the housing to mount the caliper braket too), anti moan brace, caliper braket, caliper, and dust shield. On the pic, from "3" out is gone.

Do you know if the 8.8 in came in different widths for different ford cars and trucks, or if it was standard across all modles using it?

I think you would want one out of a 99-04 as the 94-98 have a different width but I am not sure if it is axle lenght only or the conrol arm mount points are differnt. For example I had a 66 chevelle you could use a 68-72 housing but it was a different width and required a difffernt wheel offset in the rear. you would have to research the difference. trucks are not 4 link are they? don't own a ford half tone truck but I would assume they have leaf springs. i would not count on any other housing working.

that diagram is different than my rear end. on mine the axle is all one piece. the rotor just slides over the studs. the backing plate bolts to the end of the housing and that is what the brake caliper braket bolts to. the annti moa brace just has a u-bolt that goes around the housing and keeps the caliper from flexing.

What in god's name happened to have all of that break off? You might want to consider looking at your suspenson, sway bar, contrl arms, and torque boxes, if what I think happened, happened with your car. With what I am imagining, you are going to need a complete axle, seeing as how that one is never going to be the same again. If everything from 3 out has been forcibly removed, I highly doubt anything is going to just bolt back into place, and be fine. You should pull the diff cover off and see if that axleshaft smashed into the cross shaft, and did any internal damage.
