I finally have a chance to get my stang out of a barn after 2 years. I need help finding a good crate motor. I am thinking of spending about 5000 and this has to include a starter and eletric fan. I keep hearing good and bad things about the gt40 motor. I am looking for something that has over 300 hp and can be a daily driver in the summer.

thanx everyone

Do a search, look around youll find all kinds of opinions. For 5 grand you can definatley do something alittle more than a GT40....

Send a PM to Rick 91GT, or head over to http://www.rnhperformance.net/
He builds engines, and could probably get you something a hell of a lot better than a GT40 crate engine for that price range

I've got a custom built 302 with the starter and all the bolt-ons for 2,500, and I'm tellin ya. You could part this thing out for more than 25-hundred. It would annihilate an FMS crate motor.

It also made nearly 320 to the wheels as it sits, which I can verify by dyno.
