need help imediatly. stranded at work

my car is a 94. 5.0 cobra engine. its been running fine, i just drove from my home to work witch is about a 45 min drive everything went normal. i parked the car here at work. about ten mins or so i went to get in the car to run over to the bank and it won't start. as soon as i turn the key, it turns over once, and if i hold it long enough i will finally turn over once more, it sounds like its having trouble. PLEASE HELP !!

Is the battery almost dead? Do you have long tubes? The starter may just be heat soaked if you do. Once it cools off it should be OK if that's the problem.

the starter could be shot too. Mine went out on my in the parking lot at Lowes. Luckily the lot was on a grade and I was able to coast and "catch it in gear" to get it started and make it home.

Do you know how to catch it in gear if you have to?

If its not the battery, I'd really think its the starter. If thats the case you can catch it in gear and make it home, just don't stall or shut the car off until its somewhere where you can work on it. Is it just VERY slow to turn over?

If the batt. is dead there will be no juice to run the efi, or ign. Try a jump and see whats up.

That's not totally true. The alternator will supply ample voltage to run the car, but I would make sure if you are idling that you keep the revs near 1000rpms, especially if you have underdrive pulleys or else the drain on the alt will stall the car. Autozone and advanced auto will check your battery and install a new one for you right at their store... I know because I had to do that once on my way to the race track! LOL!

To catch the car in gear, you turn the key to the "ON" position, put the car into 4th or 5th gear with the clutch pedal pushed in and get the car to start rolling (if your on a flat surface, you'll need people to push you) and once you get some speed going you pop the clutch out and the car will start up, as soon as it does you have to push the clutch back in or else it will stall because you are in 4th or 5th gear going like 5mph. If you try it in 1st, or 2nd, the tires will just lock up and it won't start. I do not recommend doing this unless you absolutely have to, but it works if your in a jam. I always started my 4 wheelers like this when I was out riding.

when you tried to start it and it didnt start, did it make any ticking noises or just one tick then stop?? i had some nasty starting issues and it all led down to a loose wire to the starter....now it starts up every time without flaws

i guess i could try to get someone to jump me off to see if it is the battery. i havent replaced the battery is a long while. any more suggestions from any one??

24 volts will usually get a almost gone started. But SOON you will need to replace the starter. Been there MANY times. Nothing but stock is made good for replacement of starters and alternators!!

I'm tired of returning Bad/New parts. What a waste of time. Find a used starter. Maybe eBay.
