Hey all, I am new here and I need a little help. Thursday my mostly unmodified (steeda CAI, Predator tuner, axle back exhaust) went into limp home mode immediately after starting it after work. I got home fine and then checked it out. I used the predator to check the code and got a P0103, MAF High. One of the clamps on the induction was loose so I pulled it all off, cleaned the MAF and reinstalled it tight as a drum. No change. I then uninstalled the tune and reinstalled it. Still no change. I suspect the MAF is fried so I have one coming tomorrow. My question is does the car generally go into limp home mode for a bad MAF? Are there any other things besides the MAF or the PCM that can cause a P0103 code?

By far the most common cause for MAF related codes is the MAF sensor being disconnected, or not completely connected and latched. The best way to diagnose this concern is to use a capable scan tool and monitor the MAF sensor voltage with the engine idling. The voltage should be aprox. 0.6 to 1.0volts with the engine warm at idle. Wiggle the MAF sensor wiring (esp. at the connector) and tap on the sensor to see if the voltage stays in that range and remains steady. If you don't have a scan tool that will let you look at the MAF output you can listen for noticeable changes in RPM while wiggling the wiring and tapping on the sensor. If you find the voltage to be out of spec or the RPM changes you have found the problem. If you found a fluctuation when wiggling the wiring, you will need to change the wire harness connector.
Since you bought a new MAF sensor you can swap the sensor out and see if that corrects the concern, but MAF sensors rarely completely fail. With the concern present you should notice very poor throttle response. If the sensor itself was the problem, replacing it should result in normal throttle response.
