Im still stuck with painting my engine bay. i have everything out of it as far as wires, and clips etc... i have prepped everything (gotten rid of rust) and used some self etching primer on the bare metal spots. this is the issue im facing:

The paint gun i have is broke... bad.. and i dont have the cash to fix it. the tube is creased, and the seal up top is cracked. so i called the local paint shop and they can get me some gloss black, and put it in a can with an aerosol jobbie on it, but the spray pattern is only like 2 inches wide. i dont want it to look like trash, and spend 60 bucks in the process.

what im trying to do is find some kind of aerosol paint in a can that i can spray it with, that will hold up to engine heat. i thought about that BBQ paint, but the finish with that stuff is horrible. I dont have a way to bake it, so so using that 1500* paint that needs to be cured isnt an option either...

can anyone help me? please

Go to your local parts store(oreillys, etc) They have smaller sprayers by mechanics. I think thats the name but there only about $30 or so and work great for small jobs like that.

You should be able to pick up an inexpensive spray gun, 30 bucks or so and do a fair job. You could also use engine paint which tends to be more resistent to heat. I don't think high heat paint is really required for an engine compartment unless you have some special application. Cars come from the factory with the same paint in the engine compartment as they do on the rest of the car.

Good Luck

dont spraycan it....It will suck. I work at PPG and it really will look bad. buy a cheap gun and spray it with urathane. actually the part number is DCC9300/qt and the hardner is DCX61/8oz. the reducer is DT870/qt. it will rock and be very durable. I painted valve covers and timeing covers with this stuff and its just fine. hope this helps.

ask for a "detail gun" they hold enough paint to cover your engine bay twice, wet, you said gloss right? you don't wanna wet it on with a 2 inch fan, it will run and sag and grapevine almost definately - only do it once!! you shouldn't even need a full pint to paint that bay - i don't know what's costing 60 bucks -

what was going to cost 60 bucks was a quart of paint, the reducer, hardener, the can, and the propellant. i talked to someone last night, and they said to make sure i use a catalyst..... or something like that.... i just dont want it to look hokey, but dont want to spend a bunch on it if i dont have to
