Ok..so it's miserably wet here in Rome, GA and has been for several days, I'm broke, and to make matters worse I have developed this weird intermittent windsheild wiper problem. I can't exactly drive when they don't work so here's the scoop:

Wipers work intermittently.
Normal mode and fast mode are now the same speed.
Sometimes the wipers are going and then slow to a stop while on an "on" position.

I guessing it's a switch going bad...but I'm really not sure ....any thoughts...I need to try and fix this today!

Thanks guys!

Sounds like your motor is on its way out to me. Its hard to diagnose something that works sometimes. You need to get a test light at the very least. Mine are screwed up too, I have high speed only. I just keep rain X on the windsheild and only turn them on if the rain gets bad.

Run them on high till they cut out. Use the test light to find the power feed on the motor plug while they are running. Leave the light hooked up and wait for them to stop. Is the light on or off at this point? If the motor still has power, it is bad. If the power goes away, the switch or wiring are to blame.

edit: feel the motor to see if its getting really hot, my guess would be that is why its cutting off. Once it cools down it will run again.

Sounds like the motor here. I agree with jerry. Also if you go to buy a new one the parts store will ask you if it has 1 or 2 plugs on it... any I've ever seen have 2 plugs, just something you may want to know.

i was looking at my haynes manual.....looks like an easy fix on the motor....anything ya'll think I need to watch out for...like one of those pesky parts that always breaks when you least need it to while doing a repair on something else....I don't have time to do this all night.......I have MAJOR studies to do tonight.

Yes there is a clip that need to be take of the linkage from inside the cowl area. So take the cowl vent off and pull the clip off that holds the linkage to the wiper motor. Otherwise it is just 3 bolts and out.

Thanks guys....I went ahead and swapped out the motor. (Autozone and Advance both required it to be a "special order" so I went to a rinky dink mom and pop shop and they had it)...anyway..so i managed to do this whole thing IN the dark...pretty rewarding I might add...the harderst part was that pesky clip under the cowl..i got it on and off WITHOUT breaking it all while not even able to look at it...it was in an awkward place anyway....

anyway...so after I got the motor in...and everything back in place I cranked her up and VOILA...worked better than when I bought the whole car....so it was indeed the motor.

afterwards, I took off the cover to the main gearing to the old motor...wow..it was dry as a bone and what little gear oil stuff was left was nearly solidified and pushed to the center of the main gear and almost solidified...no wonder it was getting hot...plus the gear that turns the actual arm was stripped in several places and this is why it was "intermittenly" working.....

anyway...this is why stangnet is so great....people willing to help someone out and are smart enough to know how to fix the problem...I'm so happy....plus I saved all that labor cost....WHOOOHOOO!!
