I have a 94 cobra and tonight in traffic it started to vibrate pretty bad, I now have a kind of bearing grinding sound comming from the front of the car. The car didnt lose any power, its not getting hot, the oil looks and smells perfect, the tranny fluid is fine. My question is what are the simptoms of a bad harmonic balancer?? I've all but ruled out the water pump only because the car isnt getting any hotter and I have never witnessed it making the car vibrate this bad. To give you an idea of the vibration it feels like im missing a bolt on the drive shaft and its just out of balance, it seems the faster I go the less I feel it, but I can deffinately hear it. Also what are the simptoms of a clutch going out or failing all together. I didnt notice any clutch smell or material upon inspection but that doesnt mean it's not bad. I havent started the car and got it towed home right after hearing it. I looked some of the more obvious areas over already (clutch, driveshaft, plugs, wires, cap, rotor)
But have never dealt with the harmonic balancer, I am unaware of the simptoms of this. Thanks in advance.

take a look at the balancer. the outer ring could have slid and is now hitting the TC. it should be fairly obvious lookin at it.

do you know if it made the noise only while rolling, or while stationary? did it increase with RPM's and/or speed?

sure it is not suspension related?

good luck.

It made the noise while sitting still and rolling so it some type of rotating part. Suspension is nice and tight.
