I have a 87 5.0 speed density......

for some reason lately my cooling system is runin real hot it was fine with 190 stat....just replaced with 160 stat......
for a while the engine runs at two bars from botton of factory gauge then once I sit there it goes approx 50 deg hotter...and my exhaust it scalding hot...there not glowing but hot enough to flash boil water on it..so it heats up the floor....

I just recently passed emissions with flying colors same as last year this being during my heating problem....doesnt not seam like any restrictions in exhaust...
at idle you can see the coolant moving a little in the radiator and goes down with accleration......

I need any thoughts on my situation....

You're going to want to get some objective data.

I'd want a real gauge. Water does change form when it hits a hot exhaust - that's normal.

If you suspect an exhaust leak, you can hold the Revs at a real constant 2K RPM and watch a vac gauge reading. If the reading falls off after a little bit, that suggests a restriction.

Once actual temps are known, I'd want to ascertain if it runs hotter at speed, while stopped, etc. And has anything else been replaced recently? Are temps way higher than normal, etc?

Good luck.

it cools down at speed runs hot at idle....I havent figured out if it just cause of how hot it is outside?

but the exhaust is hotter than normal cause my floor wouldnt get so hot from the exhaust.

but my cooling would stay at one temp easily and now when I stop it goes up and the engine bay is hot as hell.

I have a autometer temp gauge just haven't installed it yet so I'll hook that up andsee what it is

where should I hook the vacuum gauge to???

If you are running hot at idle and cool at speed, then I'd check the fan clutch and water pump in that order.

Did you install the flex-lite fan backwards? This is a common mistake made by many.

The fan might not be cutting it, plain and simple. If you can put a big box fan in front of the car and all of a sudden it runs cooler, that's a sign.

The vac gauge gets attached to manifold vac. Because the vac signal is so critical, it's not a bad idea to mount a vac gauge permanently. It can help you catch vac leaks and other issues before they really start.

Good luck.

If Houston Performance is actually in Houston, I'd see if they still new Mark 8 fans for 150 bucks or so. I'd take an OEM fan over aftermarket any day of the week, but that's just MHO.

Good luck.
