I'm ready now. It's currently a 302 w/o much mods except Air Gap and Demon 650 & ignition. Hopefully to be swapped for a HiPo351 (alum Dart if business goes as planned) next year. I'd like to re-use most of the exhaust system if possible. Don't know if that will be reasonable. This is a street corner carver application so speed bump clearance is important. I also need recomendations for shorty headers. I'm ordering the TCP subframe set-up so exhaust should work with it.

So I need to decide size first. I'm just guessing at 2.5" What do you think?

Do I get the Universal crossover kit or the "Custom Tandem"?

I'm assuming that I'l need pair of ball & cone connectors for the header-crossover connection and another pair for the long tube-muffler connection. Do I need another pair for the muffler-tailpipe connection?

What about the frame clearance tubes that Dr Gas offers? Would they be helpful? Or does the ground clearance become more of a subframe issue?

Mufflers- I'm thinking the Spintech Sportsman Street XL. They look like the largest, quietest ones that Dr Gas has to offer and maybe have a more unique sound than the standard Flowmasters. Any opinion?

How about hangers? Should I just let my exhaust fabricator deal with this or is there something I should know?

Anything I've forgotten?

Thanks

You will need to get a new exhaust system from the headers all the way to where the pipes meet the mufflers when you go from a 302 to a 351. Even though (pretty sure) the headers off a 351 will fit a 302 (so you could just buy 351 headers and slap them on your 302 for the time being) the 351 heads will be in a different location because the block itself is a different size. Your muffler shop should be able to reuse the X-pipe, but he will have to run new piping from the headers, to it, to the mufflers. 2.5" will be fine for the 302, but if this 351 you have planed is going to make 450+hp, then I would say 3". All you really need to worry about is your headers, mufflers, crossover pipe style, and tip pipe tips you want, the muffler shop should take care of everything else.

Get the universal Dr. Gas X pipe kit. It will give you more adjustability when making a custom exhaust setup. You won't need any of the fram clearance tubes as your exhaust will not be encountering any frame pieces. We've used the Dr. Gas kit to do the x-haust on my Mustang as well as on my buddy's vette.
