NEED HELP WIHT PULLEYS

I can't get my alternator pulley off and my brother needs the gargage!!! When I try to untighten it just spins under my belt. Does anyone have any input from personal experience.

Those are a pain without air...Try using a mallet and take a couple quick wakcs at the wrench, sorta like trying to "jerk" it loose...short of that, just leave it on til you can get to a garage, its not all that much different from the stocker...same goes for putting it back on...really needs a couple whaps of an air gun to secure it...

Sorry, that probably doesn't help too much, but its the best and easiest way to take it off. Mine was off and on in a matter of minutes.

Running without the water pump is the second worst thing you can do to a motor. The first is not putting oil in it.

Hey leave Ernie alone.

Take the alternator off (disconnect the battery, 15MM lower bolt, 1/2 inch upper bolt, 10mm for the postive cable and two tabbed connectors) and bring it to your local auto parts store. Most have an impact gun and can remove it in seconds.

If I were to run the car with the crank and the water pump from the undrvie set, but my alternator would still be stock size what will that do??

A lot of people run underdrive pulleys at the water pump and crank with the stock alternator pulley. It will be fine. Nothing will happen as a result of it. Just, theoretically, you wont gain as much with the stock pulley. Go ahead and keep it on till you can get to someone with an impact wrench. It only takes 5 seconds or so to get it off with the impact wrench.

You may need a slightly smaller belt if you dont change the Alt pulley...but there is no problem using it.

I dont know how your cooling is, but with summer coming, you may not want an underdrive WPP.

What I did was I put a socket wrench on the bold and I stuck a flathead screwdriver indise the alt. (where the fan looking thing inside is spinning, so I could stop it from turning) and I used a hollow steel pipe I had laying around and put the wrench inside the pipe(for leverage). I got it off in less than a minute.
Now I don't know if I could've hurt my alt., but I didn't when I did this and saved alot of time/effort.
