I found this at Summitracing.com:

This is the description:
(Pinion Bearing Spacer, Steel, Shim, Ford, 7.5 in./9 in., Kit )
Install that new ring and pinion the easy way.
These Ratech pinion bearing spacer and shim kits are great for installing your ring and pinion gear sets. They have a solid spacer that can be reused if you need to take apart and reassemble the carrier.
-- $16.99

I just wanted to confirm that this is the shim kit that i will need to install some 3.73 gears on my car next weekend. The website says that it will work for my 8.8 rear, but all i am buying off someone is the 3.73 Ring & pinion. Nothing else.

So aside form gear oil (I will be putting in Royal Purple 75w-140), is there anything else this kit does not include that i will need to install these gears with?

Any rear-end techs here help me out. I have not taken my manual transmission/differentials class at tech school yet. And im going to be installing these before the class with another mechanic from my shop. So i wanted to get some help since i've never done this before.

Thanks guys :nice: Any and all help is apprecaited

Read this: http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html

You will need an inch pound torque wrench to set the preload on the crush sleeve and a magnetic base dial indicator to check the backlash.

Ford Racing sells three levels of installation kits:

M4210b.webp

Yeah sorry, I forgot to mention that i am buying a magnetic base dial indicator this week, and i already have several inch and newton lb torque wrenches.

You have prices on these kits? and where you got them from?

Also, i found this kit from Mustang tuning. Says its for MOTIVE gears, but im sure it would work for all gears, right? I might be getting Ford Motorsport (stock 3.73 explorer gears) thats why i ask.

UDT, you need the first kit in the pic that killy posted. it's the smaller of the ford kits.

the other kit you posted emilinates the crush sleeve but I find it easier just to use a crush sleeve.

Ok where do i get this 1st kit that killgore posted? I called my local ford dealer about shims today and they said they only sell them individually and its $50 PER shim...

So can someone link me? tell me how much it is? where i can get it?
