need help with 3G alt ASAP!! cruiznight tonight

ok first off lemme say i highly recomend alterstart (ebay) they sent me a 3 page performance review of my alternator. max amps 169.1 max volts 14.78

but anyway ive got everything ready to except this, the little wire... where does it go? just to key on 12v source?

Hi, woody. The regulator wired for an 85 should like the image below. The one wire that needs to be connected outside of the alternator is a switched hot wire (green in diagram below).
It's very important that you run another power wire (preferably 4awg or better and at least a 160amp fuse) to the batt post on the alternator (red wire in diagram). In '85 the factory alt power feed was only 10awg wire and uses a fusable link as circuit protection. These are well known for blowing with th stock alternator's amperage and starting fires.. With the higher amp alternator, well you get the picture

yeah...the connectors and wiring are different from the 85 and 86-93

i got it all hooked up didnt even mess with the factory connector and hooked the green wire to a switched 12v and got two new 4 guage cables for power and ground.

it works great. windows roll up faster, the headlights dont dim when i slow down, the tail lights are brighter, the blinker works faster, AND IT RUNS COOLER!!! the electric fan is getting what its suppose to now.

great investment.
