I have a bone stock 302 right now, but i want to pickout an H/C/I

The H/C/I is going on my 302 right now, but when I get the money i will eventually be running the H/C/I i put on my 302 now, on a blown 347.

I have decided on these though..

Steeda #19 cam
Holley SysteMaxII manifold

I dont know what heads i want... just looking for some ideas. I know i DONT want AFR 165s... Maybe some RHS 180s, or Canfield 195s?

any opinions would be great, thanks guys

My vote would be for the TFS Twisted Wedge (170cc). The RHS 180s are a good choice on a 347 but perhaps too big for a 302. Canfield 195's would be great on a higher revving 347 but they're much too big for a 302.

I just put the Holley Systemax kit on my 87 (302, not stroked.) I am running the F cam w/24lb injectors. Car runs ok, dyno'd at 300hp/308tq. The only thing you have to remember is that any, if not all, aftermarket H/C/I kits will move plenty more air than what a normal bore 302 can move. The punching out to 347 later down the line will just make your H/C/I package that much better.

PS: To make up for the shortcomings I'm adding N2O to my combo within the next couple weeks. good luck on tuning your car. (94/95's can be a pain due to their computer. (I have heard that the Steeda #19 can be a "plug and play" cam.)

Using your OEM short block as a foundation to build a h/c/i combo
upon is something many do

I even went that route myself

Picking out ... well suited ... combo parts for such a NA combo will yield
the best results :Word:

Those same parts will later on bolt up to a blown 347 combo
but
They will not be optimum

Simply put ... they are gonna be too small

What you have proposed to do will cause a compromise or two

Each application is just different ... thats all

Do it once, do it right, and dont regret it. Piecing together a combo is ok if your not gonna change too many things. But going from a 300hp combo to a 500+hp combo will require different parts. You dont want to buy heads twice, cam twice, etc. If your gonna do a 347 with some wicked volumetric efficiency and forced induction start by saving for a aftermarket block, build the moter with the parts you want and install the poweradder, drop it in and be happy with it. As they say good things come to those who wait.
