I've been struggling with this for far too long and I thought maybe one of you guys could help. Basically all I want is a 2 groove water pump pulley and a 2 groove crank pulley that will fit a 302. I'm just running an alternator and power steering, no a/c. I've bought 2 or 3 water pump pulleys and 1 2 groove crank pulley. Either the offset between the pulleys is wrong, or the grooves aren't the same size, or they interfere with each other. It's getting pretty frustrating and it's such a stupid problem. The last water pump pulley I bought was a C70E-8509-D, which is the large diameter one. This one is colliding with the crank pulley I just bought. Please help. Thanks.

Sorry. ALL of the current repro 2-sheave smallblock pulleys are the wrong diameter, almost 1/4" too large. All of the others are right, but you can't mix and match, i.e., you'd think you could use the 3-sheave crank and be done with it, but you'd have to switch to the 2-sheave water pump pulley, too. I suggest you complain to the manufacturer that the 2-sheave is wrong. Complain LOUDLY.

I know, because I compared ALL of the repro pulleys to originals, and they were pretty good, except for the 2-sheave crank.

I think there may have been some confusion in my first post. The pulleys I have are not reproduction pieces, they are all used original pulleys. My issue is that I just don't know what the correct pulley combination is. I tried guessing but that simply hasn't worked. Which pulleys do I need or would work?

The offset for all 65-69 pulleys was the same. Maybe you have a 70-up water pump pulley or something.

The PS-no AC setup had a 2-sheave crank pulley and a 1-sheave water pump pulley.

The PS-AC setup had a 3-sheave crank and 2-sheave pump.

Don't mix them. Although the offset never varied, the diameters interfere.

If the C7OE-D was the correct offset, just too large diameter, then the 2-groove pulley that should work is C6AE-A. It was used on a lot of motors in the 60s small blocks and FE big blocks. It's the same as the C7OE-D pulley, just smaller in diameter. I know I have at least one around here that I can measure.

Yes the C7OE-D was just too big in diameter. Are you using any of the C6AEs? If not, would you sell one to me?

Ditto, I can vouch for this, both the FE's and small blocks used the same offset water pump pulleys.

After doing some measuring, I think the issue is with the crank pulley I bought. What would be the correct crank pulley to use with the C70E-8509-D water pump pulley?

That's an answer only you may find out on your own. Very few people ever pay attention to the engineering numbers of the pulleys. I had the pulley you're after a few years back, but sold it on ebay. I also think you may need a 3 groove pulley to work with that 2 groove. If I remember correctly, that was what was paired on the motor I pulley them off of. It wasn't the original engine in the car (67 Mustang Coupe w 289) but that's what was on it.

You could go either way. A smaller crank pulley or a smaller water pump pulley. If you go to a smaller crank pulley, you'll slow dowm the water pump and probably run warmer. A smaller water pump pulley will speed up your water pump and maybe help you run a little bit cooler. Which would you prefer?
