I have a 1999 mustang GT. I bought the car with a B&M hammer shifter in it. This past week the little lever you pull up on to push the shifter forward to go into reverse and park broke. There used to be tension when I pulled up on the lever but now I pull it up and it just falls down. I'm not able to put the car in park or reverse therefore I am not even able to take out the keys. Do I just replace the shifter or is it just a part I need to fix?

Disconnect it under neath and manually move the level on the trans into park. That way you can at least get your key out.

Then remove the shifter assembly and inspect for what broke. It could be as simple as a spring or it may be fubar.

It's my understanding that those shifters are not serviceable. Probably best to just order a new one. In the mean time if you take off the factory shifter trim you should be able to peek in and see what to lift with your finger so you can put it in park and get the key out.
