I just bought a Transgo Shift Kit from Summit Racing, i dont want to do the manual valve body change, i wanna be able to just stick in Drive and Go. Im reading the box and it says it holds 1st 2nd and 3rd gear to any Rpm, i just dont understand this, please help me understand. Why do i want to hold it to any rpm?? Explain in idiot terms, cause im a newbie here

Why would you want to hold the tranny in a gear? Suppose the tranny automatically shifts from 1 to 2 at 4800 RPM but you want it to wait until 5200 RPM before it shifts. You just hold it in 1 until you're ready to go to 2. Or say there's some ricer coming up behind you and you want to just cruise at 4000 RPM until he catches up and then nail it when he gets beside you. If you put the car in drive the tranny will automatically shift when you let off of the gas to wait for him. If you have the car in 1 or 2 it will not shift.

I'm assuming that you have an AOD trans. I'm running a AOD with a B&M Trans pak. Shift kit or no shift kit you can hold each gear as long as you want to. It's called the 1-D-1. All the shift kit is going to do is give a harder and quicker shift. It reduces the friction in between gears which can actually prolong your transmission life. Some people say not to do the 1-d-1 some say do. I shift like that when I run and mine is still doing fine. It's up to you. I would also suggest that you put a Trans. Cooler on as well. Heat is the #1 killer. -Don
