I'm buying an 82 mustang. Its a 5.0 litre but has no engine or tranny. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kind of engine and tranny I should put in it and where I can buy them. Not looking for anything fancy just something I can build up. I can spend around $600 on each.
your 82 from the factory came with a carb so unless you want to swap main harnesses, you will need to stick with a carb setup. The fox platform stayed the same from 79-93, BUT they went from a 7.5 to 8.8 inch rear, upgraded suspension, brakes, engine, transmission ,fuel injection etc in the years after your 82. Best bet IMO is to go to a local junkyard or scour CL and find a later model 5.0 and swap out the drivetrain. suspension, brakes, spindles, from that car. Total cost should be well within hour budget and you will have a much better platform.
