I was thinking about buying a v6. I have been renting a 06 v6 with an automatic for the last two weeks. I just can't believe how heavy the car is, and really really let down about the mpg. I am only getting 21 mpg. I was wondering what others are getting, especially cars equipped with manuals

I bought a V6 with an auto in January. I drive mostly around the city and get 18.5 MPG.

I think mileage on cars is a lot lower than most people think it is... You realize exactly what it is when you've got the MPG gauge in front of you.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I've been getting about 18.5 MPG with my V6 auto. For comparison I got about 20-22 MPG with my 2001 4 cyl Accord that I had before this.

It's not great MPG, but then again, if I wanted great MPG, I would have bought a Civic Hybrid.

Also, where you drive and how you drive has a lot to do with MPG... I'm sure other people's number will run the gamut

I read in consumer reports a few months ago that when the goverment does the measuring of MPG on cars they do a speed of 25 mph city and only 48 mph on highway driving so that is a reason why highway and city can be different from your average driver.

18 in the city on a good day. 12-14 in stop and go, 21 if the roads are clear (not real often)

The V8 gets the same or better mileage than that! Crazy.

It mostly depends on how the driver drives, from my personal experience. Driving 55 vs 60 and flooring it from starts all effect gas mileage greatly. I usually squeeze more out of mine than on the stickers. I've never gotten sticker gas mileage on any vehicle I've ever driven. I always get 2 to 6 mpg more. For mixed highway/city driving I got 20-22mpg on my '03 auto GT with 4.10 gears, just because I only gun it maybe once a tank up to 60 mph.

For those who don't know how Divide the miles used by the gallons used and u will get mo mpg than what the computer says.

Yeah, I agree. The only way to get a real accurate read on that (that I know of) is to fill your tank, drive until 3/4 empty or more, then divide your miles driven on the Trip by the gallons you put in on the pump. The more miles you drive on that tank the more accurate your math will be.

Make sure you topped your tank off well too. That helps a lot.

I actually compared the MPG calc from the computer against the actual miles/gallons and it was pretty close... off by a couple tenths per tank at most.

I just recently got done with a long road trip through central CA and got some pretty good numbers. Cruising at night at 55 I was getting about 29-30 mpg. It went down to about 27 mpg at 70 and around 25 mpg at 75.

Some of the variance could have been due to incline and wind (at some points I was averaging 30 mpg at 70), but it's pretty flat out there. I also noticed that running the A/C constantly eats up about 2 mpg.

It seems to me the EPA numbers are very conservative for freeway driving and very optimistic for city driving. I'm getting more like 17-18/27-29 in my V6 auto.

I'm currently at 4k miles... not sure if that matters.
