I have a 2001 GT Convertable with the Mach 460 sound system and am looking to swap the head unit out and leave the stock speakers. I'm currently looking at putting in a Kenwood KDC-MPV5025 head unit. If I get a wiring harness, will I have any trouble with using the Kenwood with the stock speakers? Also, where can I buy one of the compartments to place under the new head unit to fill the space? Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, that isn't going to work. Your Mach460 sound system uses 2ohm amplified speakers that won't run off of anything but your factory head unit. I've seen people on here talking about a kit to make it work so you may want to use the search function...but my understanding has always been that you have to get new speakers when you get a new head unit and bypass or remove the factory amps. If you are interested in getting a really good sound system then go ahead and get new speakers and do the whole thing at once, otherwise you'd be better off just sticking with your stock head unit. As for the mounting kit and the pocket you can buy one from any local mobile audio/video shop (both metra and scosche make the kits).

Good Luck.

OK, you can swap the headunits out and it will work, you need the correct harness for you car and i highly reccomend a level converter. The mach 460 uses 8 ohm drivers that are briged to a 4 ohm load on the amp, if you use the correct harness it will come through the ampsjust like it does now, the level converter will drop the signal down so it does not as much strain on your factory amps, any shop will have both the kit you need and a harness and converter, good luck PM me if you need more help Dan
