Ok guys I need to get some new horns for my baby. I have some stock horns and I can barly hear them from inside the car and that's not because it's as quiet at a lexus in there.
So what does everyone have? And what's with those High and low tone horns, should you get one of each or two of the tone you like?
Here's what I want, I want two horns and I want them to be loud. I would also like them to mount in the stock position or be hidden from sight but wake up the city when I use them. I'm thinking of getting those Hella compact air horns but I don't know what they sound like or how loud they are.
So show me what you've got and let me know...how loud are they?

A least from what I've seen, you usually get one high tone and one low tone horn. I'm curious too.

i went to advance auto parts and bought the low tone and high tone base model horns. they bolted right in with no mods and look almost identical to stock horns. they wire up using the stock wiring too! it gave the horn a nice american modern sounding horn. if you just get a low tone or a high tone it will sounds like CRAP! u need both for the sweet melodic sound they are meant to be used together. total cost for both was around 22 dollars. they are very loud just like any new ford horn, but if you want even louder u can take a step up to the extra loud horns, they look identical

The worst part about picking horns out is you don't know what they sound like before you buy them. I mean I don't want mine sounding like some piece of crap yugo or something.
I wouldn't mind the european supercar sound since I think Mustangs are a super american car! But I don't care if it just sounds like a nice american horn either...key word...NICE american horn, not something from the economy class of the 80's.
Anyone know of a site where you can here the horns before you buy them? Heck I'm about ready to take a battery to the store, open the boxes and blast those things in Walmart!

Here's a thought. Take a trip to your local car 2nd hand car sales yard (fairly modern cars of course) and blast away until you find something you like. Take note of the make/model and then take a trip to your local wrecker's. Find the same car and you'll probably pick up a pair for 5 or 10 bucks.

I would NOT get the compact air horns! They have a compressor, but no air tank, so they take a second or so to fire up, and they make the car sound like a European sports car or something.

I've seen people put the actual full length big-rig air horns in a small car, and that sounds pretty funny and clears the road for you. They're hard to fit under the hood, though.

Best solution for musclecars is a pair of cheap electric horns- one high and one low. The metal body horns that came stock aren't made anymore, unfortunately.

I was thinking of getting these horns. I figured with two of them anyone would hear me. But I don't want it to sound wrong. I want to find out what they sound like before I buy them.
I guess I could contact the manufacturer which I think is Hella.

Any thoughts?

Why take a battery they sell them there.
I don’t know what kind of horns are on my car but they look stock and are VERY loud on one of my shake down rides I the tried the horn out and the Grant POS stuck and I had to pull over fast because it was shaking my teeth out. I had to put in earplugs when trying to trouble shot the horn button in the garage. But it is a deep rich sound. To bad they are never hooked up I have to get that horn button fixed.
