Need New Windshield with Running Horse?

Does anyone know where genuine Carlite windshields with the running horse might be availble (Ford Dealer?) Also what is a fair price to pay installed? I had to run an errand for work earlier today and had a truck throw a rock through my windshield, thankfully my employer is paying to get it fixed as I was "on the clock" when it happend.

There is a place called www.stangparts.com It's like a stang junkyard. I don't know what kind of rep these people have and I don't know anyone who has bought anything from them so I can't be held responsible for someone getting screwed. Anyway, i've just seen some of there products and they generaly deal with late model stangs and some foxes.

H3LL, if your employer is paying for it, i'd say just to forget about trying to find one that will save you a little money and go straight to ford for the replacement. You don't have to pay for it, so I wouldn't worry about how much it will cost.

Well I don't want them to go completely nuts if the local Ford Dealer charges a thousand dollars for a windshield and a generic one may be $200. This happend around 4:30 pm, and it was too late to call the Ford Dealer for prices.

I had mine replaced, it was hail damaged.

I opted for the non-running pony windshield, and you have to get up close to tell the difference. The installed price was $220. The generic (Safe-T-Lite) glass has the dot-matrix just like the OEM. The OEM runnign pony piece was almost $100 more.

This was just a couple of months ago.

You don't want to go to a dealer for a windshield replacement. For one thing, the dealer will just call in a local glass shop to do the work there and most dealers do not stock glass. Any good glass shop in your area can get the part, usually for close to the same price. They can get a Carlite windshiled from just about any of their glass supply warehouses. A larger glass shop like Safelite probably stocks the OE windshiled since they service a lot of the rental car accounts. I worked in the glass business a few years ago and I know we did many of the car dealers and rental car glass jobs.

I agree just find a local glass shop in your area to do the install. Prices vary from one business to another so shop around. I have no idea how Safelite is in your area but around here they are butchers, I wouldn’t have them install a vent glass in a pinto. The part number for a replacement OEM windshield (Running Pony) is DW1395. It is more expensive than the non-running pony replacement.

On another note, if you don't have comprehensive insurance, you should check into it. Glass and fire coverage is less than $20 a year for me and worth every penny. (My 85 GT went up in flames from a gas leak)

Safelite is butchers around here too. I only mentioned them because I know they get a lot of the big contracts. If you live in an area where Safelite has a presence, your local glass shop may actually be buying from their warehouse. I know Safelite warehouse are stocking the pony windshield from Carlite for the Hertz rentals.
