Hey guys, just joined Stangnet and I am looking to modify my 93 LX to give it MORE POWER! I have 3.55 gears, underdrive pulleys, no smog pump, mac headers and o/r h pipe with flowmaster mufflers and dumps before the axle, msd 6al ignition box, 8.5 super conductor wires, and i think that's it, but i can never remember all the little quirks. I was thinking about a new coil to go along with the msd box and definitely a new cam, becuase that is cheap power. I was thinking about a B 303, but am not sure if that would be the best or another cam might be better. Also i need to know what else to get along with the cam to make everything cosher. Do i need a new fuel pump, injectors? I was thinking 1.72 rr, but what else do i need? Any information would be greatly appreciated, for searching the forums give me a bunch of branches that go different directions. thanks in advance

Well, if you want a good cam, the E-303 is a good choice for the price and performance. If you want to change the fuel pump go with the 255lph and some 24lb or 30lb injectors with a 75mm pro m mass air. With that set up you should be able to run low 13's with the LX if the Lx is 5 speed. thanks

With a stock intake and head car, doing a cam will probably not give you the gains you'll expect. It will give up some of your low end power for a little more high end power (where the stock heads/intake don't flow anyway) Definitly keep your stock 19# injectors until you do the bigger stuff....it would just be a waste of money.

So you think i should just go ahead and get an intake manifold right off instead of a cam, or what else do you think i could do for some power gains? Any suggestions for an intake manifold?

alright, well here we go again.... any help with an intake manifold let me know... also i don't know if I should get an upper and lower or what exactly i'm lookin for for what price...... Never done this before. So if i want an intake without replacing the lower what do i get or what do i get if i was replacing both. Come on guys, i've been reading your posts forever and i know everyone here is full of all kinds of immaculate information. :hail2:

Save the money on the cam.

An intake would be a good choice as a next move as the lower intake is the bottleneck. PM TMOSS if you are looking to port a stock intake. I think the last time I checked he was around $110 for the labor + shipping.

If you are looking for an aftermarket intake there are many to choose from and you will get mixed opinions on which to buy. Just don't go too crazy with a race type intake and stick to a street type intake and you will be fine.

If you want to put on 1.72 rockers then you would need to change the valve springs to heavier ones due to the extra lift. They might net you a few HP but don't look for too much.

Your exhaust is a bit overkill for a stock motor and is probably hurting you with the headers and dumps. If you plan on more work down the road like heads then it will benefit you.

What are your eventual goals for the car? This is the first question I would ask myself.

you will want both an upper and a lower. that is if your buying new. you could always have your lower ported by TMOSS though. I think that flows about 250-260cfm compared to the stock around 190cfm. I think he charges around $100 plus shipping, so that puts you around $150-$200. If you want a new intake, they will run you around $500. Some nicer ones are edelbrock performer, TFS track or street heat, Holley systemax. They will all flow a bit better than the ported stock lower. If you would also like to do a cam swap, get the TFS stage 1 or Ford E-303 and some 1.6 roller rockers.

If you want a stock replacement cam i would go with a Comp Xtreme energy cam a xe258 264, or 270 for a little more grunt, my 270 idles like stock and pulls like a mofo, also i didnt lost any lowend like you would with the e or b-cam. I would listen to the guys on here and spend money on other things, but I already had my motor apart for a rebuild so i changed mine. If you want more power look for a throttlebody, mass air sensor, K&n and remove the factor air silencer, an intake and the list goes on. The aftermarket for the 5.0 is huge but choose your parts wisely and pick them to work together. Also to repeat 89sleeper what are the goals for the car? How often is it driven, how is it driven, ect

Right now i'm going into my last year of college, so I take buses to and from class. The car is driven very little while i am up at school. After I am out and get a job I plan on making one hell of a street machine, anything done to it i can think of. It will definitely not be a daily driver. Currently I drive across a small town to work daily, but that's about all the action my car sees. I baby it, but when little ricers want some action, i hand it to them. I've been workin on my car with a friend who has an 85 that is a slightly modded, so i'm kinda learning from him as I go. I can't exactly take my stock intake off because i am required to drive my car daily, but i know where i can get both a stock upper and lower intake for dirt cheap, so you think i should have this pmm or whatever port it for me? That's not that expensive at all and for the time being I could prolly unleash a few horses. Also what about a bigger throttle body and MAS? Would that entail injectors or anything else? I already have the air silencer removed and have a k & n filter. Let me know what you guys think, your information has been outstanding so far :nice:

you can get a "core" stock ho lower intake to send out for porting very cheap........ i have thrown three away!!!!!!!!

ebay has em.....any local mustang shop should have a dozen or two :)
might sell it to ya for 25 bux or so....
