Need opinions...

I'm looking at a 99 GT (35th anniv edition package). It's a white GT with 69k miles on it. The exterior is in good condition. The owner is however asking 8.6k for the car. I don't wanna pay more than 8k though. What do ya'll think about the price?

I paid 10.1 for mine about 2.5 years ago with the same miles roughly... and that was 1k under blue book. Though mine was a convertible, it sounds about right... I'd research it at www.kbb.com to see the blue book value on it with all the options it has.

bluebook says its worth 8,100 (Excellent condition).

Nada however puts it at 10,100

8.6k actually seems like a good price, my 99 was totaled back in may and
the insurance co. wrote me a check for 9.8k. but if you only want to go
8k tell the owner you will get him a cashiers check for 8k next day.
if they say no, wait a week and try again or up your offer.

Nada from what i've heard is for dealer resale.

So I should offer him 7.5k?

I would think he is selling privately in order not to get as low as bluebook value, otherwise he could easily take it to a dealer. He is probably trying to get between bluebook and what a dealer would sell for. I think you would get shot down if you offered that low..

uhm 8k for a 99GT is a good price if in good condition, damn i wish i had bought a mustang this year prices are soo much cheaper than 3-4 years ago

So actually you both win...he's making more than if he took it to the dealer for trade and you're paying less than you would at same said dealer. It doesn't sound like too bad of a price. Does he have any kind of records? A well documented history of maintenance goes a long way IMO. Also, is he willing to let you take it somewhere to get it looked over?

I do agree with Kil, a car sight unseen is worthless. If we could see what we're talking about then we can give you a better estimate. I'd also like to reitterate taking it to a shop who knows these cars well (even the dealership). It may cost you $60-80, but if it saves you thousands of dollars and endless headaches on stuff that you can't see by just walking around it then it's money well spent.
