Need some help, career wise.

i have about the same story 22 good grades hate school not sure what to do, i joined the airforce and leaving for boot on jan 23, not sure you could or would want to join but there are very few other ways to get great job training and a college dregree all while getting paid 22,000 a year

English Language, Vehicles..etc. I enjoy being around people, I dont necessarily like them, but I like being around them.

I drive semi's for fedex freight I love it. I used to be in law enforcement but found out it just wasn't me. Now I drive about 400 to 500 miles a day, home everynight, off every weekend and make about close to 75k a year

only drawback driving in the winter on black ice....

lol @ used car salesman. hahaha. I thought about car sales before, just for fun. Its not reliable though. I want to be able to have the security in my future through a job that would allow me a family and a home.

In regards to the trucking, I live in Canada, B.C. in particular. That interprets as the logging world. The truck driving jobs around here are long/short haul averaging around 16 hour days, 4 days a month off kind of thing. I dont mind the hours or the work, and the pay is great...however riding in a truck off road's all day is pretty hard on an already bad back.

Some thoughts:

Whatever you like today you might not like next year. Plan on having several career changes as you get older, and your lifestyle changes. I got out of the aircraft mechanic business and into the computer fixing business when I realized I couldn’t support my family on an aircraft mechanic’s pay.

Look for an arena that has future possibilities. I walked out on a job interview one time when I realized there were no opportunities for advancement.

Decide if you like management or technical fields. Some technical fields dead end and the only way to further your career is to go into management. There are a very few technical fields that have 6 figure incomes attached to them: medical doctors & layers are the exception.

The computer business can be profitable, but plan on doing continual study to upgrade you skills unless you go into management. The money varies with the skill level – $16-$17 K a year for a tech at the typical small computer shop to over $100 K a year for a Cisco CCIE or high end computer security consultant. The self employed consultants tend to make the most money, but they have to be on the high end of the technology scale. More time studying and lots of hours spent learning how to do it and not getting much money for it. This is an arena that can consume much of your free time, so love it or don’t get started.

Computers pay well but as stated above it requires you to keep on top of the changes in the industry. I am currently going for my Java 1.5 Cert since mine (1.3) is now out dated. At the same time I am trying to keep up with all the standards chnages for HTML/web design and learn WSAD. This is all in my off time when I am not working 60 hours a week, and I do not get paid for it. But the more certs I get the more $$ I see when raise time comes.

i reccomend looking into the Automotive marketing business administration program at Georgian College in Barrie ontario.

cant say enough good things about it. its a blast.

You'll love the Chair Force. They take real good care of their people. And you will be able to do a lot more mods to your car.

Stay away from CISCO routers.

I dunno if anyone suggested this, but you might want to look into Communication Disorders and Sciences. Lots of jobs in this field with lots of differing clients.

You'd basically work on therapies for speech impairments, stroke victims, young children in public schools with reading and writing issues, or special needs clients.

It usually requires a 4 year degree + a MA in some areas.

Anyway something to think about
