Need Some Help With these Performance parts

Hello everyone, I have Mustang GT 2000 with automatic transmission and cat back Magnaflow exhaust system, and K&N Kit. I’m looking for more performance parts such as shortly ceramic headers, super chip, and transmission gear 3.75. Also, I’m thinking of installing the Mach1 ram air on my engine. I think it will be an interesting project but I need some assistant with the tech part such as, the brands, if they are going to fit on my engine and transmission with no upgrades? Does my car need to get tuned or will be enough with the super chip? Which ratio should I get for my gear transmission? Is 3.75 gear will fit in my automatic transmission with no problems? And I would like to hear about the cams too! Please tell me if you know any information or experience.

Beat regards

Welcome to stangnet where I learn everything I know now. Get gears 4.10 for auto and 3.73 for 5 speed. As for chip get SCT Flash cause it got more and can get more tune then any other chips out there.

Look at my sig for my mods

Well, how many miles are on the car?

You are probably needing some preventitive maintenance to start with Change all the fluids. New tires, plugs, pcv valve, seafoam it, etc... (as needed)

Then you absolutely need to install a transmission fluid cooler.

After that you probably need to replace dampers and upgrade various suspension components because if it is like most Mustangs the stock ride and handling is a joke. Do some reading and shopping at www.maximummotorsports.com

As for performance do some listening and some reading. Go to car shows and get some magazines. Read threads and faqs on Mustang websites.

If you are serious about your 4R70W, which is an awesome transmission by the way, you can upgrade it for sure. For info on that: http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/index.html

What is your budget? Because this stuff gets expensive fast... Can you self install, are you a mechanic?

Don't waste your time and money with the shorty headers.

Don't know if the Ram Air is any more beneficial than CAI, which looks good but may only get you about a couple of HP, if that. If you get a CAI, at least get the JLT. I would put that Ram Air project money towards other power mods.

I would get the 4.10 gear with your automatic. That Overdrive should keep your RPMs down for cruising. Pulleys will help also (slows down the crank).

Intake - (C&L, Accufab)
Throttle Body - (Accufab, BBK, Professional Products..etc)
Cams - ( Comp 262, Crower,..etc)
Pulleys - Steeda
Midpipe - Xpipe (UPR, Bassani, Magnaflow, SLP..etc)
Hpipe (Mac Prochamber)
Gear - 4.10 (Ford)
Short Throw Shifter - (MGW, Steeda Tri-AX, Pro 5.0)
Methanol Injection Kit - (Boost Cooler, Snow)
Tuner - (SCT, Diablo)
For starters.....:D

Hey Teleb! Welcome.
Well let's begin here. The Mach Ram Air historically wont net you any real power gains, additionally it's expensive and would require a new hood + paint. Ceramic headers are a good choice but most and I recommend longtube headers if your going to get headers at all since it's a true biznatch to put them on our cars. But longtube's arn't legal in many states. As far as a "chip" i would recomend not going with any type of preset chip, but instead going with a "handheld tuner" such as SCT, Diablosport, or sniper. Next the gears are actually not for your transmission, they go in your differencial which is at the back of the car in the middle of the axle. The do offer 3.73's not 3.75's and i would very much recomend them for you will notice a sharp increase in acceleration - but i should note that it doesn't bring actuall higher power numbers, just a different drive ratio which allows for more applicable torque to be applied. Others also suggest 4.10's but they are a bit steep and I prefer them on cars that arnt daily drivers. You will need a "speedcal" to reratio your speedometer to get correct speed reading after that - but you wont need to tune you car unless you get something like cams, in which i'd suggest VT Stage I for your mods or VT Stage II if your looking for more of a street beast.

Start with the essentials first. If you want to go fast make sure you can stop. Upgrade them brakes first. Next is handeling. If you want the power of a fast car make sure you can control it.
Decide what type of racing scenario you are most interested in and make the necessary suspension changes to meet your desires.
Next would be tires. Choose some that will be functional for what you plan to do with the car ie: drag radials for the strip...etc... If you have a standard transmission change out to a short throw shifter ASAP. The quicker you shift better the less parts you break.
Then start in on your power adders just keep in mind don't buy parts that you really don't need. An example of that would be why buy a CAI if plan on doing a Blower. Save that money towards the blower fund. Hope this helps out some in your decision to make one helluva mean machine.

Good Luck and keep us posted

Don't fear the gear, I run 4.30's in my Auto TBird. That is a good combo.

The next thing, how is a Short Throw Shifter going to help an auto car out???

People who say that are ignorant. That is wayyy too much gear for a 1/4 mile . It's not reasonable for in town driving, either. 410's are PLENTY of gear. In fact, they are too much gear for stangs with power adders. You won't get any traction.

Hey CobraRed. I noticed you have a 3200 stall in your sig. Would you recommend that for the auto? Are you happy with the performance gains ect....

It was a new package option that Ford had for Mustangs that started in 1999. It was a feature that allowed you to use the automatic or you could change the gears manually yourself. All you had to do was press the button that was between the Fog Light and Traction Off button.
