hey guys new on here new to the sn95 stang i have a 98 mustang gt 4.6 5 spd. and its all original with high miles so i desided to change my trans and diff fluid. when i changed diff fluid it was pretty nasty looking and kind of low. but the plug had no metal shaving on it. now that i have cleaned it out changed the wheel bearings and seals and put royal purple 75w-90 in it and i used cleaner and a rag to clean it out really good and filled up until to the plug. but now for what im worried about is i drove it home and the next morning i pulled the plug and there are alot of shavings on it. not chunks just shavings so small hard to get off.

so im wondering if somthing is wrong or just clutch wear in limited slip, or maybe i worked some old shavings loose

any help is good help thanks alot in advanc!!

Does it make noise? It's normal for the plug to have some amount of fine metal almost like dust.

If it was me, I'd clean the plug and put it back in. Re-check it in a couple of weeks.

OBTW, the fill level is 1/2" below the fill hole. It's not fill until it runs out.

Kinda getting tired of saying it but I am with burns...hehe
He is on his game for sure.
I'd listen for noise. If all you did was change the fluid and wheel bearings and there is no noise, it could be simply old run in or wear that created the shavings and they are just getting flushed loose from where they were deposited. It may take a couple times to get a cleaner plug depending on how much is in there. You could pull the cover and flush it out if you are like me and a little impatient. Then try again. Some wear is to be expected so don't go ape with a small amount of shavings. Just my 2 cents.

Are we talking dust shavings or pencil shavings? I had pencil shavings on mine and some gear whine. Turns out my pinion bearings were on their way out. Thankfully I caught it in time and no damage was done (other than to my wallet).

Does the Royal Purple come with the friction modifier already in it?

Might be worth changing the pinion seal and clean the vent while you alread tearing into the rear diff.

A clogged vent ruins pinion seals.
