Today like every weekend i spent my day looking around the junkyard looking for cool stuff to add to my mustang.

I found alot of HO engines and some 5.0l all from tbirds and mercury cars also alot of 130amp 3G alt.
My qestion is that I found a 1983 Tbird with a 302 motor at least it looked like one that had some nice looking heads. On the head there was a 53 stamp on the corner like a cleveland head What dose this # mean?
the car had a smog pump and everything, would these heads be anygood? would I need more info about the heads?

also would the EFI stuff fit on my 289 heads?

Thanks agian.

1. Leave the '83 T-Bird engine. It doesn't have anything you want unless it's a 351W or something. Even then, the heads are from the dark days of the smog era.

2. Yes, EFI will fit on your 289.

The 302's to avoid, unless paying scrap prices, are the 1972 to 1985's. Only exception to this is the D8VE 302 blocks, these are thick walled like the Mex block, but have the smaller main caps the rest came with. You could also check that 83 for the fox body pan that's got the dipstick in the pan, that one's a gem for those wanting to trasnplant an early front sump block into a later model (1980-up) car or a Ranger swap.

Not hardly. There's a world of diffference between the two. and not just in the rocker arm design

Probably hard to find but didn't ALL M-II V-8's have the Mexican block? Should be able to buy the entire car for not much at this point.

Never seen a Mex block(in a car or truck). As far as I know, they were just scattered thru the assembly line.
