In the near future I'm looking to put a beefier short block in my car and I needed your guys help. I'm leaning towards slapping a s/c on my car instead of Nitrous, but was needing some advice on which short block to get/ that would meet my needs. What I'm wanting is something between 450-500hp. The short block I'm looking at right now is the VTengine GT "SR" which they state is suitable for up to 500hp. They also offer the "sportsman" short block that use Forged H Beam rods. Should I spend the extra $1k and get the sportsman shortblock or stick with the "SR" short block?

The short blocks I'm describing are at the bottom of this page: http://www.vtengines.com/low_engines_shortblocks.htm

Also...would I need to upgrade my top end any to reach my goal (cams, port heads, etc.) ??

Thanks for the help guys....

with that much HP you definately want a better oil pump & that comes with none. & without a couple other things. the oil pump is gunna run ya around 300, so now you're up to at least 2800. just something to keep in mind, you're gunna need to spend a lil more money to make it work safely. if it were me i'd be looking at the more expensive one they have there & the ones that MPH has.

Good point. So does the sportsman shortblock come with the oil pump? Can't seem to find any info on their site. I might e-mail them and ask.....

What would you recommend up top. VT Stage I or Stage II cams(if I decide to stay N/A) w/ a P&P on the heads with a spring upgrade?
