I had the rearend in my 94 GT rebuilt a month ago or so, and tonight I was underneath my car inspecting some squeaking sound I keep hearing while driving. I fixed that, but anyway, while I was under there I saw this piece was kind of hanging down a bit. I crawled under there further and was able to push it up flush against the drive shaft area. I proceded to try and tighten the bolts holding this thing on but they would not turn at all. Does anyone know what the deal is? Did the mechanic maybe leave some washers or spacers out when rebuilding, or even put it on wrong? Take a look at the picture, inside the little red box is where the space is, but I can push that up and it'll sit nice and flush. Make sense? If not let me know, I'll try and ellaborate.

I dont think so, nothing leaks from that area. And that piece that is hanging down was metal.

the piece you are reffering to is commonly called the "dogbone" and is acutally a vibration damper for the rear end.

many people remove it all together when they experience bushing damage like yours.

teh reason you can move it up and down is the bushings have seperated. if it was like mine one side is still attached and the other is torn--i removed mine with no side effects.

Hmm, might give that a try. Thanks for the info. Has anyone had bad experience in removing this "dog bone"?
