Need Some Help.

1st heres a quick whats been going on with the car.Just got it back from Ford from having some warranty work done on the rear end and the rack and pinion being replaced.They were suppose to give the tranny a good look over but due to a mis understanding between me and the dealer it didnt get looked at.

Ok now for the part where I need help.
When I dropped the car off I have been noticing a wierd grinding kinda sound while in 5th gear and doing between 50-70mph and I had what had felt like a normal clutch pedal feel and travel.It also had the dreaded TOB squeal.

Now I have it back and I notice that along with that sound in 5th....if I get on it some I can catch it faintly in 3rd and 4th also.But I also have noticed that my clutch pedal has hardly any play in the travel unlike before.If I let up say 1/2 inch from fully pressed to the floor the clutch will start grabbing, and the TOB sueal is now completely gone since I got it back.They did not do any work what so ever on the clutch or tranny.
Not only do I have those probs but tonight the shifter feels strange at times,sometimes it acts like it doesnt wanna go into a gear or at other times it doesnt want to come out of gear.


So does anyone have any idea as to what may be going on here?Is it possible that they unhooked the clutch cable while replacing the rack and pinion and the cable was put back on diff?

Im trying to see what to expeact here,its under warranty if its the tranny,but if all this is only the clutch then that means that I would be responsible for the whole bill of which I cant afford at this time for them to do it,but if its just the clutch then I can change that myself.

Sorry for the long post but I felt that all the info was needed.Like I said just trying to figure out what I need to do here,If i take it in and its the tranny then I have a deductable to pay but if its the clutch then I gotta pay all that and I no can do at this time.

I can do that to my clutch.make it low .this works 4 me ,car off when you have pedal pushed to floor slide your foot off pedal allowing clutch pedal to snap up hard on its own,will take acouple of snaps .they say you lift up hard on pedal if clutch is to stiff. My clutch is orig but on 3rd tob and thats how i adjusted mine,and 222k on clutch now

Ok i tried that...of course I did know about adjusting it but tried the above and it didnt help.
Now when I press in the clutch about half way or so while car not running I feel a slight catch felling in the pedal.....I dont think its catching but has that kinda feel and has a sound thats like some one tapping with their finger on that tin clutch cable cover on the tranny and only once for each pedal press.

I have to fully pres in the pedal....If I let up any preasure at all it will not change gears while running.I dont think the clutch is bad with less than 60k miles on the car...but then again im the 2nd owner too.

Correct me if im wrong but I thought i read here before that if the clutch cable doesnt follow a certain route through the engine bay it can cause the cable to stretch....to be more exact the path the cable routes around the steering rack.

The noise you are hearing when you drive down the highway is just tranny noise being transmitted through the shifter. When I first put my Tri Ax on I noticed it. The only thing you can really do to help quiet it down is put a gasket between the shifter & the trans but even that won't get rid of all the noise.

I know the sound your talking about but the sound im talking about has just come up in the last month and its definatly not the shifter cause now its starting to do it in 3rd and maybe a bit in 4th and sometimes on decel Ill hear it for a sec.Ive had the tri on here since about the 1st month I had the car and never had this sound and it didnt do it on my 01 gt.This is definatly a bad sound.Oh and I had the original shifter put back on for the warranty work and that sound is also there with the stock shifter.This noise is lound....sounds like rocks rolling around in a can...best way i can describe it.

As for the pedal problem I think I got it,I did that adj were you reach under and grab the quadrant and push the pedal,now its grabs about half way and Im not grinding the gears now.....I wonder what ford did to make so sensitive?

I really appreciate any help Im trying to make sure that its not a clutch failure.....I cant afford right now for ford to say I need a clutch before being able to fix the tranny prob and at less than 60k miles on it I dont see it being a bad clutch.

When was the last time you changed the fluid in the trans? That might be something to try & see fi ti makes a difference. Also check your transmission mount and make sure it isn't deteriorating. Also while you're under there check the joints on the D/S and look for any marks on it like sopmething is rubbing. Just trying to think of things outside the trans. first.

I changed the fluid out back in may with synth,mount looks good.Im assuming the joints are good since Ford had the d/s out for the rear end rebuild.I dont see any marks.

This sound Im trying to describe is similar to the a starter sound...as if some one is trying to start the car while its already running....but from the tranny.Im gonna prob go ahead and take it to ford this week since I no longer think the clutch has anything to do with the other prob I was experencing.Later today when the rain stops im gonna drain the fluid and see what it looks like and make sure it has the proper levels still......it should since there are no leaks.

When my 1st tob blew the bearings were in that cover have u looked inside?

Yeah i looked inside,its all in one piece.I think the sound is gonna be internal,of which is fine since i have warranty,but if it did end up being a clutch...well thats not warranty and alot of $$$ i dont have right now.

I have the clutch to wear it works like it should now so I think im safe to take it in for a tranny prob.Thx for the help
