Need some quick help about a 302

My friend is installing an older 302 into a Supra. He said that there's a problem...its a front sump pan. Oilpump bolts to the front of the block...and according to him its in the way and he needs to have the pump in the back of the block. And can use a rear sump. Now I'm slightly confused myself as to what he's talking about but any ideas?

Perhaps an externals system for dry sumping would work?

To go cheap, tell him to try a fox body pan. They are rear sump. If it fits in the car, he can just take to oil pick-up off of one of them ,too. If not dry sump may be the best way, short of everything custom,(pan,pickup). But that's never cheap. If he goes to the fox-sump, he will also have to change the main cap bolt to stud to blot down the tube as it runs to the back of the motor.

dry sump is way too expensive...

A fox body mustang uses a rear sump oil pan. Just get the pickup and stock pan for a foxbody and use it. The pickup comes off teh stock front pump and has a long tube that runs to the back of the motor and drops down into the pan like a normal pickup. Just find a fox pan and pick and you will be fine

I go for the fox body pan and pick up idea.
Seems like that would be the best way so far before dry sump.

You cannot move the oil pump to the rear of the block, these things ain't Chevy's If the Fox body pan doesn't work, then nothing will. The front "sump" in a fox pan isn't a sump at all, its the space necessary for the oilpump.
