I have pics of Headman longtubes on a 351W with an AOD on this page...mustang70 said:The AOD pan is a lot wider then the C4 of FMX. Not all of the long tubes will fit around it.
After seeing longtubes take ~20 hours to install in a 2001 WS6 I would say yes, there's PLENTY of room in therestreetgrande69 said:well, actually, there is quite a bit of room under there. those are the elites, maybe.............

Long tubes are generally a little better for performance (everything else being equal of course) but the long ones will take away some ground clearance. Not much of an issue unless your car is lowered more than the typical 1-2 inches though. The clearance issue on my car is BEHIND the headers, and that will only happen on convertibles since their underbody is quite different. Your 72 with a 302 should not have any problems with putting an X-pipe on it.triostang said:so which are better? shorties or long tube? im not sure which i should get but i wanted to put an x-pipe with them, would they fit? on a 72 302?
