need suggestions on shortys for my 69/351w & aod

those are the ones i have on my car too, the only complaint i have about them is that the 2 rear bolts on the driver side are a royal pain to get in, but other than that they fit really well. do yourself a favor and get either the copper or aluminum gaskets because i guarantee you won't want to change the cheap paper gaskets when they blow out. i would also have the collector flanges and the head flanges welded around the circumference for extra insurance, i wish i would have done that to mine, but i haven't had any problems so far, so i guess it's not critical. they are a drastic improvement over the stock manifolds for sure. if you can't afford the coated headers then at least have the painted ones sandblasted and paint them with VHT cast iron 1600* header paint, i did mine almost 2 years ago and they still look very good. pm me if you need anything.

I've got Heddman shortys on a 302/AOD comb in my '70, and they fit perfectly, with no mods to steering or the tranny. I like them enough that when I go eventually go with a 351W, I'll get another set.

Yeah those headmans look good and recomend them for a budget. But there is nothing like the JBA's or the 1 3/4 anderson shorties I plan on getting, which I almost got till someone showed up and bought them hours before I got to the place grrrrrr.

After seeing longtubes take ~20 hours to install in a 2001 WS6 I would say yes, there's PLENTY of room in therestreetgrande69 said:

Long tubes are generally a little better for performance (everything else being equal of course) but the long ones will take away some ground clearance. Not much of an issue unless your car is lowered more than the typical 1-2 inches though. The clearance issue on my car is BEHIND the headers, and that will only happen on convertibles since their underbody is quite different. Your 72 with a 302 should not have any problems with putting an X-pipe on it.triostang said:
