Need to make a decision about my new Cat-Back, Help !

Ok guys, this is my FIRST real mod on my stang, i want some good advices

Here's my situation... I'm a 18years old at college with my 95 5.0... So, i don't have alot of money to mod her at the moment. I just love the way muscle car sounds and stuff... I mean, I love the way the stock sound, i just want it louder...

I tough about MAC Cat-Back 2.5''... but after listening to it on mustangexhaust.com... i knew i wanted more of a 'rooooomm' sound then a 'ROARRRR' you know what I mean ? So I listened to the Flowmaster 3-Chambers and I really want that kind of sound... I can pay up to about 400$ US max. Remember that I have stock headers and h-pipe and i DO not plan on changing em soon, cuz of money...

Just wondering if you dont like the sound of 2 chamber flows?
If I were you id go with a H-pipe first, you will notice a big difference in sound, the sound your looking for. Thats what i did to satisfy my muscle car sound needs untill i had more money to do an awsome cat-back.

I love my bassani. I know the cat back are expensive but I bought just the mufflers ($92 each) and MAC flow tubes (I think $50). It sounds great. I also bought a X-Pipe for $150. I installed the X-Pipe myself and I had a shop put my mufflers and flow tubes on for $50. They dumped the exhaust though. I liked the sound for about a week. Then I got tried of it and hated it. It rattled everything. I just had my stock tails with 3" tips that I already had put back on ($40 total). It sounds totally different with the tails back on. I love it so much. I had 3 chamber flow before. I hated them. I hope this gives you another idea or possible option.

Where did u find the Bassani mufflers for $92 apiece??? Or does anyone know where to get 'em cheaper?

Sorry I just looked at my receipt they were a $100 each. I bought mine from my local shop. I never priced before so I might have got a good deal.

I have a MAC Prochamber and 3 chamber flows. I am changing my cat-back soon though because it is rusting out. The sound is ok. It was loud to me in the beginning but then I got used to it. I would suggest going with 2 chambers over 3. 3 chambers is too quiet... but than again I'm 16 and I like loud cars... haha. An h-pipe will give you that old muscle car sound, and an x-pipe gives you a higher pitched sound. The MAC Prochamber is somewhat of a mixture between the two. The 3-chambered flowmasters gives you very little interior sound, and a little bit of a roar when you're at WOT. You will get used to the 3-chambered mufflers fast, and most likely wished you would have gone with 2.

Ever think about just getting an offroad h-pipe? They are cheaper than a catback and probably give just the same sound increase, and it will keep the stock h-pipey sound. If your going for a catback, I'd check out Magnaflow. Good luck with whatever you end up going with.

I love the way the MAC Prochamber sounds! After I put my X-Pipe back on for inspections I think I am going to switch to a prochamber or Dr. Gas. But that's in July so I have a lot of time.

The Damned, I know you PM'd me a while ago about my exhaust. Im gonna fan out and recomend the slp. Put away the fact that slp was primarily an ls1 company. Its a great exhaust system and I think its about time someone else got it to help me prove that its a great exhaust system.

An off-road mid pipe is going to give you alot more change in sound. I put MAC cat-back on my car when it was stock and it was barely louder than stock and MAC is one of the louder mufflers (louder than Flowmaster). It may sound sweet in that clip, but I can bet you you'll be dissappointed when you start up the car and is sounds almost like stock. The stock cat-back is not that bad. Plus buying cat-back for ~$300 will give little to no performance gain, but an off-road mid pipe for ~$100 will give you a good performance gain and a huge sound change. I can e-mail you a clip of my exhaust if you can handle a ~6MB clip.

Yeah I was going to go with the SLP exhaust before my bassani. The SLP sounds badass. It will give you the growl you are looking for.

Yup, I only heard good things about SLP... Do you have a clip somewhere of a SLP exhaust with stock headers and catback ?

If i were you I would just get the o/r h pipe and buy yourself some mufflers. All a catback is is some slightly larger tubing with the brand mufflers and maybe some shiny tips... just changes the pitch of the sound. You want the h-pipe with no restrictions to really hear that engine growling... and it's much cheaper... I got mine with flowmaster 2 chambers. I really enjoy the sound and rev it all the time just to hear it... You got any tunnels near you? You'll be looking for excuses just to cruise through them if you get the h-pipe... at least i was..

I got a flowmaster cat back I'd consider selling that has the 2 chamber mufflers. I'm going turbo and heard that flowmasters and turbos don't go good together.

Yeah the whole cat back is some times a waste of money. Yes, they do look better but that's about it. I think if you want a whole catback then look into the SLP. It sounds great and the tips look badass. But if you want more bang for your buck buy some mufflers, the ones that sounds best to you have them put on and then buy an O/R pipe. I had three chamber flow with stock everything else. I didn't like it because I could never hear it. I put a O/R X-Pipe on, I about died. It was so much louder. I loss a little TQ but I made up with it with the HP that I got from it. And don't forget you can put some bigger tips on the stock tails for better looks and a little added sound. And if you need you can get some MAC flow tubes for $50.

and where the hell does that fits ? and, does it fits with my stock cat-back ?

So i'll probly go with O\R Mac H-Pipe + MAC FlowTubes if its really useful..

the flow tubes don't really do much. They connect your H-pipe to you mufflers. The stock ones are 2.25 piping and the MAC come in 2.5 so you gain alittle HP there. I wouldn't get the flow tubes before the mufflers.
