the instructions (413-01-1) call for the instrument cluster configuration information to be uploaded to the diagnostic tool ....... ?

has anyone done a removal without this step?

are you changing the entire cluster? if so, you do need to have the information pulled from your cluster, and programmed into the new cluster. i have heard that the snap-on modis scan tool can do it, otherwise its a trip to ford.

i removed the instrument cluster from my car a while back. i unplugged it, and pulled it out. i have not had any problems since then. i cant see needing to do anything different to simply R&I the cluster.

want to do a step by step as you go?

I wouldn't mind except that I'm less than 100% sure of the final results ....
