i have a 1990 mustang gt and i took it to the track and i ran a 14 7. i couldnt hook up at all and i spun all the way through first second and third. i couldnt get a good launch either. i have the 16 inch ponys on it. what i was thinking is to put the old 15 inch rims on the back and put 275 nitto triple 5r's or slicks. any suggestions?

From what i hear the Nittos don't hook very well...but that's just word of mouth.

What you need to think about is weight transfer....if your car is lowered, this can be a problem. You can get a good launch even on street tires if the nose is allowed to rise up and transfer weight onto the rear wheels...but when a car is lowered, particularly if it has a raked stance (lower in the front) you're going to have issues with weight transfer. If your suspension is stock (mainly as in control arms and shocks/struts) then you may wanna look into that as being your next mod. I'm running BFG drag radials and they hook ok but still spun hard off the line and a little in second for me...i couldn't get better than a low 1.9 60 foot which i've done on street tires a few times.

i got e303 cam 373 gears bbk intake bbk springs msd ignition and msd coil underdrive pulleys mac shortys flowtech offroad hpipe bassani dumps. i ran a couple 15;1's i missed third and ran a 16;2.....i just got my liscens and my very first run ever was a 14;9 but my best time and seems pretty constant was a 14;7 so far. im goin to union grove tomarrow.

the NIttos need to be headed up beyond belief to hook well IMO, I have the MT streets and they hook up hot or cold

He means "heated" up :nice: With those mods though you should be in the low 14, high 13s if it's tuned good, which if you're spinning through 2 gears, you should be. What RPM are you launching at? if try shifting a little early going into 2nd gear too, that'll keep you from spinning quite so bad till you do get slicks/drag radials on

In my humble opinion forget the Nittos and go straight to the M/T ET streets. I ran the Nittos and spun like crazy last weekend. 1/8 mile track but could only muster a 8.50 @85 MPH. 60 ft time was like 2.10. Terrible run. Theres at least a 1/2 second in the 1/8 that I can't get because of traction. I'm an old drag racer and haven't run drag radials at the track on my own car but I did run another guys car with the M/T's and they definitely hook better. I tried every launch method and PSI you can try and 8.5 spinning was the best I could do.

BTW I'm not knocking the Nittos because they are a great street tire but not good enough for the drag strip. If anyone has a different opinion PM me and I may be able to hook you up with a set (P245-50-r16)with about 10 passes on them. They look good and run good on the street.
