I am looking at getting acold air system. I was wondering if I will need a tune with the CAI or I can just leave the stock tune? I have had problems with tripping codes w/ the CAI in the past. If anyone has any info. let me know.

yep, you need a tune when putting CAI on the 05 GT...

Cai

I just installed a K&N Aircharger kit on my '06 GT without a tune-no problems. In the latest 5.0 Mustangs & Super Fords mag they did a feature on CAI's, with this kit and no tune they got 18 HP increase-after a tune, they only got an additional 3 HP. I'm very happy with my results.

Just got my tune from Alternative auto with CAI, those guys know how to wake up an auto tranny! Spent the money, get the tune....it's worth twice as much, now the car runs like a muscle car should.....scares the wife:rlaugh: . Gets tire from 1st to 2nd WOT! I can even feel it downshifting when coming to a stop now. Too much fun! The throttle lag is gone and I know it's not from flowing more air.....GET THE TUNE!

THE BOMB

Thanks for the info. I want to start with a CAI and work my way up to a tune because of the money issue. I just put on the SLP Loudmouth Exahust and just want a little more power. I would love to buy a tune for it but I will have to wait a little while. thanks for the info.

Blackballed: I'm in the same boat you are...CAI + tune = too much money right now. I'd love to be able to start with the CAI alone and not be getting 'check engine' lights, then do the tune later.

Goldenpony: is that K&N kit still 'error-free'? You've had it on for just a couple of days now, right?

Most CAI's will cause your car to go dangerously lean without a tune. Some do not require a tune though. An example is K&N's CAI. Best thing to do is shop around and find the one you want then ask the mfg if you need a tune.

I don't understand how a CAI could make your engine run "dangerousley lean", the computer should adjust fuel delivery to compensate for the added air the engine can now breath in.

If you don't plan on any future mods, such as exhaust, pullies, then you don't need a tune.

Go with the CAI/Tuner as you'll be much happier down the mod road later.

Just the catback requires a different tune!

I've never owned a Mustang, and never will, that I don't do the exhaust mod first w/CAI.

The tuner protects the motor while dialing in all upcoming mods.
