My oem 302 block has 134K on it with 271/305 at the rear wheels.

Over all goal is to freshen up / replace the lower block and add my current bolts on to it. Then add a Vortech SC later. I'm on tight budget.

Current Upper bolt on's:

Eldelbrock Performer Intake
AFR 165mm heads
FMS 1.7 rr
Eldel 70mm TB
C&L 76mm Maf
24lb injectors
Kirban AFPR
MAC 1 5/8" long tubes with O/R Bassani X-pipe
Oem computer - no chip
255 lph Walbro fuel pump
MSD 6a ignition
3:55 gears

Looking @ the CHP 306 Street Fighter shortblock, and Adding an Ed Curtin SC cam and have them install it. Also figuring on a Pro - M 80mm Maf, Power Pipe, new UDP - ASP brand.
I'd probably 42lb injectors with the SC, not sure if I could run them on the 306without the SC ??

Let me know what you think. Thanks,Dewman :nice:

are you looking to upgrade the block itself or the internals in the block? if you looking into upgrading the block i'd suggest the ford R block or the rare A block. if you got the money of course the dart block. if you want just the internals id go with chp or dss for a complete block. or how about a 331/347? you can run those injectors with a custom tune

Mainly, I'm looking at trying to upgrade the bottom end of my oem 302 block, and use the existing bolt on's as I listed out previously. In prep for a super charger. I don't think the oem bottom end would take the hp that the sc could make. Thus moving toward a CHP shortblock.

I believe I can use the 306 ci block, and with that get a stronger - crankshaft - new SC cam - forged pistons - forged conecting rods etc. etc. then when the budget allows put a Vortech V2 SC on it. I'd like to have a 347ci but the budget wont allow it. It'll be all I can do to get lower fixed up, and save toward the Vortech. :D

save your money on the pullies(if you are going blower)and forged crank/rods.

another option is finding a forged piston fox body motor locally and doing a refresh of it for cheap.

save the money on the injectors/maf until you get the blower--you'll have to get a tune 2 times or a self tuner.

i would look to chp for the shortblock. every transaction i have ever heard involving them was great (including mine). i would go with a 331 over the 306 though. for not much more money, you get 25 extra cubes and a rod ratio that is perfect for a blower. i would recommend the strret fighter pro-street if that is within your budget since everything inside is forged and your weakest link will be the block (even though i have seen people well over 500whp on the stock block with no issues). give them a call and see what they can do for you.

I just can't buy into that bad rod ratio thing :nono:

On a street motor, you want all the cubes you can afford :nice:

I would not stop with 331 and not get the benefit of 16 more :)

Anyway ... 331 or 347 ... its all moot with Dewman's Question ;)

He wants to use his current 302 stuff and its all too little for a stroker combo if done like it needs to be.

Besides that ... with the blower, he has plenty of cubes for a street combo that will be plenty impressive IMHO :D

I'd not go for fancy cranks and other high dollar items since all that stuff will end up residing in a house of glass if you go for the mega power with the big boost.

Keep things simple and you should still be able to have 400rwhp and keep things together without all the fancy smancy stuff.

You could rebuild your existing shortblock or as you have indicated, just get one from Mark who seems to take care of business as they say :nice:
