Picked up a supercharged LX for a buddy that is pretty damn clean with new paint but the engine by is a different color... car red.. engine bay maroon. It looks nasty and we are going to gut the engine bay and repaint it... we thought about just doing the engine bay black.. or should we try to find some krylon that matches the external color? Thanks for any input or pics!

No matter what anyone says it's going to come down to personal preference.

I'll vote for matching colors, but others will come along and say to do it black because it looks cool and contrasting like old school hot rods (or whatever their reasons are). What do YOU like better?

Alot of people on here dont like an engine bay that differs in color from the body color. Me on the other hand, i painted mine black because i can never make up my mind, and dont want to have to pull the motor every time i get the outside of the car painted. I think matching the outside color looks better, but Im going to wait till i smooth and fill my engine bay before i do that.

Looks like my buddy wants to try and match the color the best we can. We saw some black engine bay pics and didnt really care for it.

You could always 2 tone it like LS-What's car.. that looks amazing to me.. do the top half the same color as the body and the bottom half in black..

then again, his whole car is 2 toned, so i dont know how that would look on your buddies car.. but its an idea!

Well he just changed his mind so we are going black. We figured with the amount of holes and imperfect areas in the engine compartment a Satin Black finish might not show them as well and pull the attention to the motor which we can make look good for fairly cheap.

Thats looks really good unfortunately for us we dont have the money or time to patch all the holes in the engine bay or get it painted at a paint shop.. we will be using some Krylon on this bad boy which ive done in the past and it will look much much better then it does but no where as nice as the pics above... very nice man!
