needing a cam for new combo

I have a set of trick flow twisted wedge heads with 1.72 roller rockers on em. will be running a street or track heat intake, 70mm tb, 1 5/8" Longtubes, and 3.55 gears. what will be a good off the shelf cam for this setup? stock shortblock is still in so whatever it is will need to clear the stock pistons

The comp 270xe cam should work nice. I believe its .544 lift with 1.7's. Go with a street intake and a 75mm TB.

any other recommendations guys? I was thinking maybe a TFS stg 1, it should clear the stock pistons with the 1.72's correct?

with the stock short block those pistons are gonna smack them new valves the first time you crank it with a cam as big as a .544 lift. the trick flow cams are designed to flow exactly what the twisted wedge heads are designed to make the most power with a broad torque curve. im sure with your combo you'd be most happy with something as small as a tfs stage 1 cam. especially with the stock bottom end. plus you'd still have some driveability in it, with all the power desired.just remember....you can always go bigger.

100% Wrong! I'm running a slightly bigger cam than a .544 lift with .020" milled trickflows, no p to v clearence here. Peak/max lift means NOTHING!! Its the valve timing that effects p to v clearence. I believe the piston is low in the cylinder when max lift occurs.

For al off the shelf cam, I still recommend the 270xe cam, its a good ots cam.

Yes, those are actually the two cams I was considering for my future combo (Edelbrock rpm heads and intake) The stage 1 has been proven to make over 300 rwhp with your combo so you can't go wrong there. The Comp Cams XE270 has a little less duration but I believe the power band is very similar. If it were me I'd go with the Trickflow cam just to complete the combo with all one brand....plus there'll be no guessing about performance.

I should mention that this is more or a performance street build than anything. might see the track every once and a while, but it still needs a good street powerband

I use the XE270HR with 1.6 rockers. Had lots (.100+) of clearance. It is the exhaust valve that is close because it does not close until right about TDC on the exhaust stroke....
