Neutral Safety and 4spd in a 69?

Well, from what I have read (shop manuals), there is not neutral safety switch unless its on an auto transmission. I pulled a switch off a 70 4spd though and tried using it but it doesnt bolt up... Any ideas?

Anyone have a picture of how it looks and how it bolts up?

You're right about only the automatics having a neutral safety switches.

4 Speeds would have a clutch safety switch... if at all on the older models.

If you pulled a switch off a 4 speed, I would think that it would be a switch for the back-up lights

I don't remember there being a neutral safety switch on the '69 models. In fact I don't even recall having to depress my cutch to start it either.

see...im so confused cause the car wont start without it, and its not a clutch pedal switch cause the car starts without engaging the switch.. UNLESS there is a different harness for an auto and thats what I have...

Rev lite switch is shifter mounted.

And Gm used the Clutch in to start switch more than Ford.

OK..its makin sense BUT...

The electrical plug has 4 terminals but two are hotwired so thats the neutral safety bypass. The other is the reverse. The switch uses a plunger style button that attaches to the transmission shifter spacer and the reverse rod pushes the switch.... Looks like its gonna be easier just switchin the spacer plates.

Hurst uses a bracket off the shifter bolt to hold the switch.

The jumper wire needs to be installed to make positive switched connection to your starter sol.

Also good place to splice in a kill switch.

If I cant figure it out tomrrow, I will post a pic of the switch. Its got a bracket on it, but I cant make it fit on the tranny.

Sounds like you've got the wiring for an automatic trans car - you might also have a cable to the console shifter indicator lamp. Just short it out, as manual trans cars don't need 'em.

It really narks me in modern cars where you have various interlocks to 'defeat' before you can start the car - I can understand the neutral interlock on an auto, but these days they want you to stomp on the brake too. I mean, how stupid are people.
