Hmmm? Do you mean the 05 V6 Mustang? They are going to be 4.0 not 3.5 and it appears they won't be out till sometime in Oct. Here is some infro on both the V6 and V8 models I came across specs

The last we heard the earliest the 3.5 will be ready was sometime in 06. But I wouldn't expect it to put out 260 horses. They might detune it a bit to 250 still very admirable and should hold it's own against other base model cars and I4 based stuff.

Go to www.media.ford.com and do a search on "Duratec 35". There is pleanty of info there direct from Ford. If you're good at searching find the "Lima News", which is the local newspaper in Lima OH where the Duratec 35 will be built. They had a lot of info. on it too. You could also search "Automotive News" & "Detroit News" articles. Both newspapers had lots of info on the Duratec 35 announcement.

Here are the basics.

New Duratec engine family based on the Duratec 3.0, but with lots of improvements.
Displacement capability from 2.5 to 4.2 L.
First production version to be 3.5L - hence Duratec 35
Variable Valve timing.
Dual overhead cam, 4 valves per cyl.
Aluminum block (deep skirt 60 degree V) and aluminum heads.
Specifically designed to improve low end torque over current 4V designs.
Designed to be used in FWD / RWD & AWD vehicles.
The only version officially announced is an 87 octane version with 250 HP / 250 lb ft estimated.
Rumored 91 Octane version for Lincoln to fillow with 270 HP.
No detailed specifications have been released, ie. bore size, stroke, comprssion ratio, cam & valve specs, etc.
Production start end of calander year 2006 so the first models to see it will be 2007 MY vehicles.
Current planned production capacity 325,000 engnes / year.
No firm plans to use it in the Mustang.
Rumored to be slated for use in the 500 / Freestyle / Futura and the Lincoln & Mercury versions of those vehicles.

Why don't you get a used '05 V8 for the same price as a new '06 V6? or new '05 left over? You won't regret the V8, it is a WAY better choice. Put you V6 mod money towards the V8, You will never get V8 power out of that V6, modding the V6 is a waste of money. Plus the V8 cars have better resale.

Really? I didnt know they were working on V6 based on the Duratec engine, that is a pretty nice engine. This would explain the $7K gap in price from the base V6 to the GT then, if the base model starts at $18K and the GT starts at $25K, then this other V6 would probably fit right in around $21-$22K. If they really do make that engine and it comes with around 250HP that is going to be very sweet, and alot better on gas.

V8 or none at all for me...I love the rumble of a V8 and missed it driving 4 and 6 cyl cars for the longest time (except for 2 of my trucks, one had a 5.0 and the other a 5.7)

I really don't know where you guys keep getting the idea that we're going to see a 3.5L Duratec in the Mustang. It's like the $20K V8 rumor, but with less substance to it.

I'd love to see that motor, but it's too expensive for the base model Mustang. Maybe in a SOHC variant, but the DOHC motor is a bit too much for the price of the base Mustang.

You are correct. Ford has NOT said that they will put the new Duratec 35 in the Mustang. Some people have assumed it will be. Making assumtions can be dangerous.

Well what do you think they'll use in the mustang after the 4.0 goes bye bye (which it will...within 2 years) and the 3.8/3.9 OHV engines kick the bucket?

/cough/ Duratec35 /cough/
There probably wasn't article stating it as the Duratec35..HOWEVER there was when it was reffered to as the 'cyclone engine' which the 35 eventually became known as

Remember there was always a plan to use the 3.0 Duratec and 4.0 SOHC that is going to be used (which will probably be a tad underated)
notice the 202 and 300hp were ***engineering estimates as of 2003 December.

Where has it been said that the 4.0 SOHC is going to be gone in two years? I hope this is a stated fact from Ford and not another assumption. Because, you know, most people assumed the 3.8 OHV V6 would not still be around today. In fact, it wouldn't have been I suspect if not for the lack of a good replacement engine for the Windstar/Freestar.

If your budget is tight, be careful of insurance too.

My insurance almost doubled going from a V6 to a GT (same insurance company, same driving record, etc).

No, they were different model years. But I was compairing insurance cost when the V6 was brand new vs. insurance cost when the GT was brand new.

I'm just glad to see the old 3.8 is being replaced with a more modern power plant. The 3.8 wasn't a terrible engine, but it was really starting to show its age.
