New 331 is in the car but I have a fan problem.

I have my new 331 in the car but I have some clearance problems with my electric fan/radiator. I am using a Meziere 55 gph pump with an idler pulley but the idler sticks out further than my old setup. I am going to have to get a different setup. I will get a larger radiator since my current cross flow only has about 17" of cooling fins (width). I am going to have a downflow radiator made that is 25.5" wide.

My radiator guy (wizardcooling.com) suggested I get a 4 fan setup since my clearance is very tight witht the blower/pump and pulleys. Does anyone have a 3 or 4 fan setup? If so what is the noise level like? Here are a couple pictures.

The radiator is as far forward as it will go. The front of it touches the radiator support. I've considered using a Contour fan but I am not sure I like to look of them. They would certantly handle the air flow needs but I am not sure I would be happy with the way it would mount on the radiator. Heck, I could probably get away with the same fan and offset it on a wider radiator.

The smaller fans put out between 550-750 cfm each. The one I have says it will put ount 3000 cfm but I think that is likely over rated. I would think that the 4 fans would pull a few more amps than a single fan. IIRC the fans I am looking at draw 5-8 amps depending out output. I could not use the high output fans becasue of clearance issues so the 4 fan setup I would use would draw about 20-22 amps.

I am getting a real good deal on the radiator so I am not as concerned as I normally would about the price on the fans/shroud. My total cost should be just a little more than a Be Cool or Griffin radiator alone. I just want something that will cool my engine, be appealing to the eye and dependable.
 
Put a wider summit deal in there and offset the fan. I can't believe that zirgo fan worked for you. First one we tried nuked itself in 3min, and the next one just didn't cut it. If your going to upgrade, definitely go wider.
 
The new fan will be as wide as I can go. That should be about 25.5". That will take me from the air inlet box on the ps to the overflow tank on the ds. I should have about 1/3" on both sides. My old radiator cut it while I was moving but creeped up at stop lights. I hope with the high flow water pump and larger radiator I should be fine. I also dropped the t-stat from 190 to 180 figuring it couldn't hurt.
 
I'm not surprised the setup you have now (one center fan) fell short with more heat, it leaves >25% of the cooling area outside the fan shroud.

Whatever setup you go with be sure the shroud encloses the whole fin area like the 4 fan one, that way it pulls air through the whole radiator cooling area and forces it out the fan like a suction.

Have you looked at the 2 fan offset type? I see lots running that with big motors w/o issue, 2 medium sized fans one top left one bottom right and the snout fits between where they meet. I'll have to look for pics I've seen like this with shroud made for 1 high, 1 low.

From all I've read a pusher isn't as efficient as a puller and actually blocks airflow into the front of the rad. (motor, fan blades). A lot of what works for cooling depends on how far north/south you live and average/high temps.

Well I ordered a new radiator a couple days ago. It will be a cross flow with both inlets and outlet on the ds. It will be a 4 fan setup with a shroud like the one in my picture. The fans will be from Spal. I am having a temp sensor bung welded in to control 2 fans. The other two fans will be controlled by a sensor in the block. One set will come on at 180 and the other at 195. The best part is the whole setup is only going to cost me about the same as a drop in Griffin radiator. I hope that having the fans kick on at different temps will keep the noise level down (not like the car is quiet and I can even hear the fans over the flowmasters and blower anyways).

I have a feeling that most of the time the second set of fans will not even come on. If anyone is interested I'll post some pictures of the setup when it arrives in a couple weeks.
 
I got an update today on the radiator. He was having a hard time getting the shroud and fans to the depth we needed but that is now done. He is now working on the overflow tank hose (stainless tubing). I asked him to send me some pictures before he ships early next week. I'll post the pictures when I get them. He said that it is looking really nice and I will behappy with it.
 
The fans pull 6 amps each. I am not sure if they pull more on initial start up or not, I assume they would. I have two coming on at 180 and two come on if I reach 195. I trimmed the radiator support last night and the radiator fits like a glove. I have about 1/3" clearance between the blower pulley and the fan.
 
He cut me a helluva deal on it. $750 shipped with the special stainless overflow tube, temp sensor bung welded in on lower DS and the sensor installed. I got a substantial savings over standard costs because he is a buddy of my step brother.

I guess he had about 7 cars in SEMA this past year. Many were in Mopars.

I figure by the time I got a Griffin ($600) and paid for the fans (Contour $130) it is pretty much a wash but looks better IMO.
