NEW 69-70 door shells

Has anyone bought these? What was your experiance with them?


My shells are pretty bad...out fellow member xoxbxfx was telling me they can be a pain in the a$$ and that i should try and save the ones i have now...ill take some pics later of them...but what are yalls thoughts on them?

I had a set of them put on my 69 mach 1. Now the body man is having a real tuff time getting the gaps adjusted right. the ones I got were from NPD and were really good quality.

Would it be a better idea just to replace the skins?

Im thinking i might be able too....but the bottoms of the sheels on the inside of the passenger door is rotted through

You'll be time and money ahead fixing the old door shells and re-skinning them. A friend I used to work for has a retoration shop and a customer he had bought some door shells for a Camaro and they didn't fit for s**t. I asked him about buying them for my '70 and he said "Don't do it."

One of my door shells was paper thin and all pinholed in the bottom front corner - I spent a whole day welding and filling holes, grinding and blasting, but now it is solid. The good thing about the shell is you can't really warp it, so you weld the crap out of it.

How bad is the original door shell?

LOL... good luck. There doesnt seem to be a junkyard around the DFW area of TX with some.... I looked for some not to long ago cause I needed them for a mach 1... Ended up fixing the stockers.

Don't limit your search in one city or state. There is a big yard in AZ that advertises a lot, and a big Mustang specific yard in Colorado.

The one caveat is that many 69 owners bought whole 70 doors to convert the glass, especially if their 69 doors were rough.

It is bolt in instead of the crappy glue in style.
It was a 1 year nightmare, and I live in it .....

The good news is that the bolt-in glass is now being reproduced, as well as the brackets. I got my brackets at NPD, and the glass fromn a shop in Janesville WI.

Yikes. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I don't suppose you can buy the repo 70' brackets and easily swap them into a 69 door? :SNSign:
