Went to Byron today. I was there for 5 hours and only got 3 runs because they had over 400 cars there. But I'm happy with what I did. Last time I went I also only did 3 runs and couldn't get my launch down, ran a best of 14.2 and a couple 14.4s at 100 MPH. That was when I only had the axleback too. Current mods are in my sig. I was hoping for high 13s since I still have the stock Pirellis, but figured I'd be lucky to get better than a 13.99 on those junk tires. So I was VERY surprised with what I did.
First run, slipped clutch out at 2500 and powershifted 2nd and rd at about 6200 RPM, got a 2.368 60' and ran [email protected]. I was happier than a pig in **** that I got a 13 on my first pass.
Second run against my buddy's 03 Cobra, I slipped the clutch out kinda quick at 3500, and hardly spun at all, actually bogged a bit. Cut a 2.004 60 and ran a [email protected]. When I got back to the pit my buddy was like "did you see what you ran!?! I didn't know these cars ran that good". I was VERY happy with this run.
third run, basically did the same thing, but came out of the hole a lot harder (it felt like it, but the numebrs don't show) with just a chirp chirp chirp, did a 2.010 60' and ran [email protected], which proved the 2nd run wasn't a fluke. On this run though I got a little grind into 2nd, so I backed off on my 2-3 shift.
I was not expecting to run 13.4 on these tires. It feels like the car has a lot more in it. I bet with a drag radial if I can get the 60' down to 1.7-1.8 I can get the car to go real low 13s or maybe 13 flat. We'll see in a few weeks when I go back on a set of mickeys. But like I said, I am very happy with what I ran. I just wonder how much of the improvement from last time is the car and how much of it is the driver.
