New Classic Bodies Worth It?

I think someone already had a thread on this, but would it be cost effective to build you a "new" 67 fastback from the new bodies they sell for 16,000??

My buddy and I have been looking for cars to fix up to no avail. Most of the classics we've seen have been severely rusted and their owners are not taking that into account in their asking prices which are far higher than we could pay. So I was wondering about maybe starting from scratch.

Can you even build a car form one of those bodies? How would you get it titled?

i would say that if you were going to build a really high end PT car or revive an existing car that was beyond salvage due to rust or accident damage then the new body would indeed be worth it but if you are starting with nothing and expect to turn a profit on it then no way is it worth it.

hoenstly, you should start looking for early 70's camaro's, they are going to the next big thing in chevy land and they are pretty cheap right now. there are also a ton of them around this area too.

oh yeah, late 80's el camino's and other G-body cars are a good thing to look into as well, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, Regal and Grand Prix, especially V8, T-top cars and any 70's Trans Am. i'd stay away from mid to late 70's camaro's though. they are very popular with the circle track guys around here though and you can get lot's of parts from some of those guys that will work on the early 70's Maro's and Birds.

the best places to look around here are in Slaton, Woodrow and towards Idalou, mostly east and south. there isn't jacksh_t in wolfforth. there used to be a lot of old stuff there but not any more, it's all been picked through.

When are we going to get together? Course my stang ain't going no wheres anytime soon, well least not till after school's over.

Are there no good junkyards in the Lubbock area?
I wanna drive out to Phoenix to look, I bet they've got some cool low rust cars out that way. You'd think there'd be some cool stuff in Albuquerque as well.

there are a ton of cool cars down around sweetwater and around that area or at least there was last time i went that direction.

there's also a place between Big Spring and Snyder on the back road out of snyder, probably about halfway between the two, lot's of old classic stuff there. if there are any cool old car junkyards around here i don't know about any of them. there is early bird wrecking on Clovis road just past the loop but good luck getting them to sell ANYTHING they have.

the owner of mine thought it was beyond repair, and didnt bother to uncover the serial code.. turned out to be an S-code GT but thats just luck bext 2500 i ever spent

Oh yeah I've been to early bird, and they told me they couldn't sell me anything.

We went looking around for yards, but didn't find anything. It's weird because only 100 something miles away in Midland/Odessa there are tuns of yards with tons of cars, mostly late models, but some classics mixed in there too. I don't get how Lubbock is twice as big and has 1/4 of the junkyards.

There are some cool yards out in the Happy Valley area of Phoenix, the problem is with all of the Californians coming out there looking for a good starter vehicle, the yards jack up their prices.
