New Clutch

I just had a centerforce clutch installed in my 94GT and was wondering about the 500 mi break in period. Do's and don't or best way to break it in. Any advice appreciated.

Drive it like you normally would, minus the hard launches. Just go easy on it, for a little while.

I think they recommend not going above a certain RPM for 500 miles, usually that mark is around 3,000 RPMS.

I'd love too but I'd like to get a few miles out of it first. The warranty info states
450 - 500 miles of stop and go street driving before applying full engine power. I was hoping to hit the highway for vacation (1000 mi) but now I wonder if I have to break the clutch in before I hit the highway. Any advice always appreciated.

You will be fine, on a road trip. Highway driving doesn't count against the 500 miles, as it doesn't use the clutch much. Just set the "cruise" and go.

so u cant spin the clutch disc faster ......i think they just dont want you to get the clutch disc too hot for the first few hundred miles. u can shift at any rpm just do it easy although i dont know why anyone would be driving the car easy at the higher rpm ranges.

RPM doesn't matter, but how you get it up to the RPM does

Just be easy on it, drive like an average person...

Thanks everyone. So far so good. I'm trying to put a couple hundred miles on it before I hit the highway. Clutch is not as stiff as I thought it would be. I don't have a lot of mods
K&N Cold Air, Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust, Superior axles and now the Centerforce Clutch. D

Yeah, the CF clutches have probably the softest aftermarket pedal feel...

If you ever want to see if you can get it softer, try replacing your old clutch cable...

Chek Engine Light

I'm breaking in my centerforce clutch as per warranty (400-500mi city driving) and now my check engine light is coming on after I drive about 15 minutes. Took it back to the shop and they say there is no code identifying the reason. They even pulled the module?? and checked the history and still no sign of why it is coming on. I spoke to someone at a speed shop specializing in Mustangs (should've gone there first) and he thinks the O2 sensor may have been cracked or damaged when the exhaust was removed to install clutch.

Question. Is the code adjusting intake/fuel ratio improperly now and can I ignore the light for awhile w/o any problems.

Also the guy in the shop says my stock clutch quadrant may not be sufficient for my new clutch (may brake because it is plastic). Anyone have problems with clutch quad
after replacing clutch?

As always thanks for the advice.

The 02 sensor is a good guess and very likely, it should read though on the programmer (code reader)....

A couple connections on the tranny may not have been installed all the way on, like the neutral safety switch, ????

Yeah, plastic quadrants are fairly notorious for stripping/breaking...

Check out some from MM, UPR, Steeda, etc...they are pretty cheap too

Much obliged 5spd GT and all who responded.

Yes it is the 02 sensor causing the check engine light. Don't know which one and the dealer wants $130 each? or do they come in pairs (hope).

If I don't replace the sensor or sensors for the next 2 weeks will it affect the performance of the car. Can I head out on the highway and not worry for about the sensor shutting me down on the highway.

I'll replace the sensors and clutch quadrant later.

I tried uploading the url to my car at car domain but it says invalid attachment but I have one pic there just joined today if you want a look.

Any advice always appreciated. (250 miles on the clutch..soon)

I got my sensors from O'Reileys for $80 each.

My factory O2 sensors had NTK written on them. I googled this and it is NGK's line of O2 sensors. I found new ones at Summit for $39 a piece. The harness is longer than stock also, which helps if you have LTs. I have had no problems with these O2s.

Yeah, parts stores 02 sensor range around $80...mine were Bosch from Advanced Auto Parts.

Nah, they 02 sensors/monitors won't shut you down and it will run just fine until you decide to swap them out...and they don't come in pairs, I wish

Dealerships are pretty notorious for charging more than needed...I try to stay away from them unless it is an emergency or I need an OEM part the next day...
