Definitely keep in mind that the stronger the clutch, the riskier it is on the transmission.

A SPEC 1 or 2 is not going to hurt the transmission. Now if you have a solid hub, then it might be an issue.

Curious as why the preference on resurfacing instead of a new one? I was thinking of going with new, not too much additional cost and if I'm replacing the other stuff, figured might as well.

Yes, I'm going to order a new pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and a quadrant as well.

King Cobra here on my H/C/I 331....works just fine. No complaints.

FWIW, I picked it up through CJ Pony parts who has their kits assembled and built by Astro Performance if any of you are wondering where they come from.

you may want a new cable too so everything is fresh, replacing a cable is a pita...

i think everyone would agree the ford or MM one is the way to go, plays a big part in clutch feel..

ask your guy if it needs a new flywheel or resurface hes the one looking at it, and his rate won't change either way... either should be fine...

I am always dubious of the quality when I see a flywheel at Autozone for $66. Makes me wonder what recycled bicycle the Chinese managed to hammer it out of. The advantage of buying a new one is that the car doesn't have to be down for the period of time it takes for that flywheel to go out and get resurfaced and come back. I'm always in favor of sticking with oem quality which is the advantage of resurfacing the original.

I wouldn't use the throw out and pilot bearing that comes with a clutch kit either. Pretty much guaranteed to be Chinese no matter what kit you buy. I have had good luck with the BCA bearings I order through Advance. Just be careful, a lot parts stores have mutiple brand lines they sell, and the bottom of the boat stuff is always Chinese.

Understood. I'm actually looking at the Ford Racing stuff from Summit, including the flywheel for $129, and both the pilot and throwout bearings. I'm surely hoping that this stuff is better quality than others, but I could be wrong??

I don't have any experience with that that Ford Racing package. I have no idea who makes it, or what quality level it is.

i looked it up definitely the clutch i listed and below it just said clutch kit

isnt the ford kit what jrichker suggested on your other post as well?

I work at a Ford Dealer I have been a tech for 15 years . I installed a new Fly wheel . I used the ford racing one which is the stock fly wheel . I went with the spec stage 2 , may be going supercharged in the near future wanted a little room for future mods .one of the guys I work with suggested spec after having good luck with them in a few of his own project cars . installed a new Ford throwout Bearing , surprisingly we stock that and the input shaft bearing . cable was newer maybe a like 2 or 3 years old. plus its adjustable . Finished it tonight so far so good , as far as replacing the fly instead of machining , it was just more convenient to replace it , instead of sending it out for resurfacing , since I did it at work after hours I couldn't justify tying the lift up for a day to save 50$ , the machine we use wanted 50$ the new flywheel was 100$. I just wanted to thank everyone for the input ,

Yes, it is. That's the stuff I'm looking at. Unless something changes, I'm going to get it ordered today.

no one should ever buy any parts from autozone advanced auto or any other substandard retailer , especially something as important as a clutch . the parts sold at those stores are substandard at best .

For an update I drove the car 100 miles yesterday on the new spec stage 2 clutch and I'm liking it so far seems easy enough to drive , how serious is spec on the 500 mile break in seems kinda long ,I don't remember any other clutches having a break in period ?

^^ ive always followed the 500 miles on any clutch everything needs a chance to break in and youd be unhappy with a glazed clutch...and my clutches work and last a very long time...
