new cobra 31 spline diff - do I soak clutches?

I have my rear end gutted and ready for assembly. I bought the Ford Racing 31 spline diff and US Alloy 31 spline axles. Do I need to disassemble the carrier and soak the clutches? The carrier is obviously already assembled and I'd like to not have to mess with the S-spring if I don't have to. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't answer my question. I'm wondering if it's necessary to go through all this since Ford has packaged the thing already assembled. The only "special instruction" listed on their website is to use friction modifier.

hmm good question. the only thing I can think of is to soak the entire section or install, fill with fluid, let it sit, then turn the wheels half a turn and let it sit.

this may be entirely wrong but that is all I can come up with to not have to take it all apart. hopefully someone that knows what they are talking about can chime in. If all else fails call who you bought it from (ford?) and ask them.

We have never soaked clutches when doing a clutch pak. Just did two a few weekends ago and neither have issues.
We do however, apply a coat of fluid to each side of the pak (guess you could say we saok them technically), so take that as you will. Never did it with friction modifier though.

Yeah, that is a good question. Maybe install it and let it soak in the axle like mentioned before. Then take it easy with a couple of hundred miles of break in driving. I never heard of taking apart something that's already assembled, so you'd assume you just put it right in.

I don't soak mine, I even added a clutch to each side and I have none of the popping people speak of, mine works flawlessly. I did change the fluid after about a week.

Again, thanks for the replies. I called the Ford Racing tech line, and they said it was not necessary to soak the clutches, nor was it necessary to soak the entire assembly prior to install. I'm setting it up tomorrow, so hopefully all is well.
