New converter or new heads?

Canfield heads or new torque converter?
I can only buy one of them now and want to go with the one that will reduce my E.T the most.
I'm thinking the new converter because although the heads will give me more power, my 60' times will still be poor and still wouldn't be getting the max. gains from the heads.
What do you guys think...get the converter now and gain the full potential of my setup now or get the Canfields and the converter later?

get the converter now...you might change your mind about the heads if you like the converter enough. actually it really depends on whos going to make your converter. if you get a custom converter made definetly let them know that you are going to put those heads on it so that they can make the converter to support the heads. or you will be pulling the converter and getting a new one or getting it restalled.

It would be an Edge custom converter that I would go with. I'm thinking of going to a 3400-3800 stall converter. Would that be too much for the street? I do have a good cooling system and large tranny cooler to handle the extra heat generated from the extra stall speed.

Converter!

It will make an immediate improvement in times. You may need a tire upgrade to make it effective. I did! But I was amazed at the 5-7 tenths immediate gain!

If you do the heads first, you will be dissappointed in the gain.

I would probably say (unkowing if its a C4/C6,AOD) that anything from a 10" 3400 to a 9" 4000 (I would probably gravitate twards the 9" converter) would be great.

Hey,we were runing a almost 6000rpm stall 8" converter on the street,and IMO it drove BETTER than our 10" 3500rpm stall converter! (It was a C4 behind a 408)

The only problem I see is that if I change the converter NOW, and get the heads later, I would have to have to converter changed because the powerband would be changed.
If I get the HEADS now, then I may only see small gains in performance because the converter isn't enough.
Doing both at the same time is not an option, Unless, I tell Edge Performance that I already have the new heads so that the converter will match the powerband when I DO get the new heads.........

RD, you dropped 5-7 tenths with just a converter swap

by bro inlaw went with a high stall converter. hid is custom made for his vehicle. I recommend going this way. the b&m high stalls are generic and they don't really work well for most vehicles. with one of there converters you think the tranny is slipping. with custom made converter you hardly know at all you have a highstall. vehicle still moves at lower rpms but works the way it should at track.. when your on the street it doesn't look like your doing 1st gear dump launches. get a custome converter. as for if it will improve your et more then a set of heads? thats debatable.

86bluecobra, your setup is almost the same as mine except for the heads and gears. I have ported & polished stock heads with 1.94/1.60 valves and I have 4:10's instead of the 3:73's
I also have a NOS sniper system waiting to be installed this winter!
What does your car run without the juice?
