New DD - 2006 GTO

As far as I know, the Marauder won't be back anytime soon. I wonder will Ford release a more powerful, v8 version of the Taurus.

I'm seeing more and more GTOs in my area lately. The 04's can be had for a couple thousand over a low mileage 04 GT. I've seen a few in the 18-19k range. I actually see more 05s because even they sell for a very decent price. The single-side exahust tips were probably among the first things they changed (pushed an already uninspiring design well into the region of Bland City). A decent bargain but I would gladly save a few more pennies for the 05.

I rode in a 5.7L GTO, I thought it rode excellent. I liked the seats too. The only thing, is like the Vette, the seats wear very quickly! I wish they would have made the GTO a retro car. Friend of mine has a 66 GTO that he has owned his whole life. He is much older than me and he has his life savings in it. The motor made over 700ft lbs of torque on the chassis dyno. It's a beast.

I would drop my fox in a second for a new GTO. Sorry to say it...but those motors are amazing! Not to mention you have a 12 second bone stock highway screamer...AS A DAILY DRIVER! And im sure it gets better gas mileage than most cars on this forum, mine included! Nice pick man!

I applaud GM for keeping the pushrod alive.

They built the ultimate new factory engine IMO. Who wouldn't want an all aluminum 427 dry sump arrangement?

How agile would the GT500 be with that sort of set up?

Then, the fox guys would go nuts to swap that engine into their cars.

These new gto's are such a disgrace to the classic, i absolutely hate them. I cant believe they would take such a legendary name and slap it onto a car that has no meaning, resemblance, or ties to an american tradition. Its a real shame and is ultimately why the car failed in our market and will be axed. Its too bad cause they could have really had a hit with it. But they took an australian car which had nothing to do with pontiac and put a name on it that was legendary, hoping it would sell. Wait till you see what happens when the challenger comes out, Dodge took the name challenger, built a car that was very fitting and overall looked just like the original with a new modern twist. This is a car that will take off and did the original car its justice.

Don't you know that's the new trend in car manufacturers, all across the board? Resurrect an old nameplate, give the car just a few styling hints to make it vaguely resemble the exterior of the original namesake (perhaps to someone legally blind, looking at it from 50 feet away), then give it a so-so engine, make it REALLY heavy, load it full of stupid luxury options that nobody really wants/needs in a muscle car, and then price it out of the reach of everyone except spoiled rich kids or weathy retirees desperately clinging to the memories of their youth.

The only one I've seen ANY company get halfway right is Ford with the '05+ Mustang ... and even that they kind of managed to screw up a bit, IMO (kinda pricey, heavy, too cushy, tacky interior). At least it's selling really well, it's pretty quick, and there's already a huge aftermarket for it. But now they're talking about putting out a "new" Mustang in 2010, which means to me they're going to take something that isn't broke and try to "fix" it...

At least with the GTO, they kept it RWD and a V-8, and having 400 horses on tap ain't all too shabby, either ... even if the car IS pretty blah in the looks department, and it weighs about as much as your average Lincoln.

So ... how's it holding up after a few months?

Its great! Love every second of it. I have the GTO for my DD and my Mustang for the track, great combo!

congrats on the new car, very nice...my brother in-law has one and I love the power, the looks have oddly enough decended on me though as far as exterior goes, interior is very nice though. He recently went 13.0@108 bone stock to the paper filter...6 speed of course.

Was he running the stock tires, or some MT or summin like that? How was the weather when he ran...

I went 13.7 bone stock, on stock street tires on a very hot day and it didnt seem like i would be able to get much more out of it. I also only had 500 miles on the car!

A lot of cars actually perform better once they get a few thousand miles on 'em. Dunno how it translates into horsepower differences, exactly, but my mum's '05 Nissan Sentra was getting some HORRIBLE gas mileage when she first bought it new "out of the box" - around 21 MPG highway with granny-style driving. However, with over 12k on the clock now, it's getting somewhere around 32 MPG or so on the highway.

The factory tune will not let you have full power (timing restrictions) until 2500 miles on the clock. Best thing to do is once you have that milage on it, reset the fuel trims and take it back to the track for a true baseline.

I just ran a new best of 10.86 at 132 in my LS1 GTO.

What are fuel trims? And i just set a new best on mine this Friday, 13.3 @ 103, and that was me shifting from 1st to 3rd on accident. I think i can go 13.0's bone stock like the other dude said.
